  2. Two detained after cars damaged in road rage incidentpublished at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2021

    Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing damage to several vehicles in Birmingham, following a road rage incident, police say.

    The pair also failed to stop for police - and ended up travelling the wrong way down a duel carriageway as they evaded arrest.

    One car was damaged with weapons on Bristol Road, Selly Oak just after 23:30 on Sunday. said West Midlands Police.

    It then emerged that more cars were damaged as a passenger struck them with a baseball bat as they travelled along Mary Vale Road

    The men were eventually detained two hours later on Golden Hillock Road after crashing the vehicle and making off on foot.

    The men, aged 24 and 27, remain in custody on suspicion of dangerous driving, criminal damage, failing to stop for police, disqualified driving and possession of offensive weapons.

    We now know which lockdown measures in England are going to be eased first in the PM's announcement later.

    On 8 March, schools will reopen and two people will be able to meet in public outdoors to socialise. Then, on 29 March, two households or a group of six will be able to meet outdoors.

    Vaccines minister and MP for Stratford-on-Avon Nadhim Zahawi outlined the plans on BBC Breakfast earlier.

    Lots of you have been getting in touch on the BBC Midlands Facebook page, external, with some asking if it's too soon to send all pupils back to school on 8 March.

    The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) has said (with "moderate confidence") that schools have a "moderate" impact on transmission.

    It said it was difficult to "quantify the size of this effect" or the level of transmission taking place specifically within schools, external, but said primary schools had less of a role in spreading the virus than secondaries.

    Some recent research from the University of Warwick concluded there was no hard evidence that primary schools spread the virus.

    One person needed care from an ambulance crew earlier after they were trapped in a crash on the A53 in Shropshire.

    The incident involving two vehicles happened just before 09:00 GMT at Astley.

    A stretch of the road was closed after the crash.

    Birmingham Royal Ballet has released a new digital performance to inspire audiences during the lockdown.

    Empty Stage, external was commissioned by the company's director Carlos Acosta as a response to Covid's impact on live performances, it said.

    It features dancers and backstage staff from the company and will also be shown as part of the BBC's online Culture in Quarantine series.

    An electric scooter was seized by officers after a banned and uninsured rider failed to stop for police.

    Motorbike patrol officers from West Mercia Police in Worcestershire tweeted, external the rider had been caught and showed a picture of the seized scooter.

    "Not the best ideal to fail to stop for police on an electric scooter when you are disqualified and have no insurance," it said.

    "These are both required to be able to ride on a road," it added.

    Rental e-scooters can be driven on roads but not privately-owned vehicles.

    Flood warnings remain in force on the Wye, external in Herefordshire after the river burst its banks at the weekend.

    It's the second time in a month it has flooded at more than five metres above normal levels.

    Flood alerts have also been issued for the River Severn in Worcestershire with flood gates on New Street and Waterside, in Upton-upon-Severn, closed yesterday

    River levels are set to fall slowly over the next 24 hours, said the Environment Agency.

    Two teenage boys are due in court charged with kidnap after a car was stolen in Birmingham with the owner's two children inside.

    Officers were contacted on Saturday shortly before 17:00 GMT by the children's "distraught" father, said West Midlands Police.

    He reported his car had been stolen with his sons aged two and four still inside.

    Two boys, from Birmingham, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court also charged with aggravated theft of a motor vehicle.
