Some of the local residents have been sharing what it is like to live alongside the landfill site.

The Environment Agency has said it is about to add a fourth air quality monitoring station near the site and had recently shared data from other sites with Public Health England.

It added enforcement action required Red Industries, the owners of the site, to make improvements to its operating procedures.

India has joined the UK's travel red list - effectively banning travel - as a deadly second wave of infections sweeps the country.

British and Irish nationals can travel to the UK from India, but they must now isolate in a government-approved hotel.

Rohish Mirje is an MA student at the University of Warwick and said he faced a cost of nearly £2,000 to come back and stay in such a hotel.

"I have to come to the UK because I am a Masters student and was in my own country India for literally five months after the Christmas break. I want to be there to enjoy everything," he said.

Fellow Warwick student Smriti Misra is also currently in India and said she felt they were facing an unfair cost and it should be subsidised.

"Students are not earning, they are studying, they are already paying a hefty amount to get the degree they are studying," she said.

The University of Warwick said it valued its international students, but could not alter the government's quarantine rules.
