    Police have confirmed that a woman who was killed in a crash in Blythe Bridge last week was 64-year-old Kveta Hangonyiova.

    Ms Hangonyiova, from Burslem in Stoke-on-Trent, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A50 Blythe Bridge at the junction of the A521 East at about 18:30 BST on 15 April.

    The car she was travelling in had been involved in a crash with a flatbed HGV, police said.

    A 64-year-old man had been travelling with her in the car and he remains in a critical condition in hospital after sustaining serious injuries.

    Staffordshire Police has appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

    The owners of Birmingham's Bullring shopping centre have sold off the firm's last remaining retail parks, including ones in Telford and Rugby.

    Hammerson sold the sites, also in Falkirk, Didcot, Middlesbrough, St Helens and Merthyr Tydfil, to Canadian investor Brookfield for £330m.

    The firm said it would use the money to reduce its debts, amounting to £2.2bn.

    "Our immediate priority is to strengthen the balance sheet," chief executive Rita-Rose Gagne said. "This latest disposal is a positive step."

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left with a serious head injury after being attacked in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Staffordshire Police said officers responded to reports of violence in Hyndley Close, Bucknall, at about 21:15 BST on Tuesday.

    The victim, in his 30s, was taken to hospital - he is also believed to have broken his arm.

    The force said officers remained at the scene while investigations continued, and appealed for information.

    Police are appealing for help to trace jewellery stolen from a house in Shropshire.

    The necklaces and ring were stolen from the property in Cleehill, near Ludlow, in November.

    A 28-year-old man from Worcester was jailed after admitting burglary, but it is still not known what happened to the items.

    The jewellery is said to have great sentimental value to the owner.

    Fire crews in Coventry spent last night searching a storm drain after reports of "noises" coming out of it.

    West Midlands Fire Service said specialist rescue teams were deployed to the drain in the Chapelfields area.

    However after a "significant search" crews concluded there was nobody in the drain.

    The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will return to Symphony Hall next month for live performances.

    There will be concerts for socially distanced audiences from 19 May, the CBSO said.

    It has also installed a new acoustic screen at the back of the stage, so the musicians can play together safely.

    The orchestra said this may mean that they will be the largest orchestra performing regularly anywhere in the UK at this time.

    ‘We are so thrilled to be able to welcome audiences back to our home at Symphony Hall and to be able to share the joy of live orchestral music with them once more," Stephen Maddock, CBSO's chief executive, said.

    An old industrial site in Ironbridge that has been home to metal casting works for more than 300 years could be developed into housing.

    Shropshire Homes Ltd has applied to build a 30-flat block and 48 new houses on the nine-acre site at the Coalbrookdale Works in addition to converting a former warehouse into 20 maisonettes and refitting the Grade-II listed Power House and Pattern Shop into three more homes.

    It has also submitted plans for 189 parking spaces at the former Aga Rayburn site and said its plans have "been informed by the analysis and understanding of the site’s history".

    The Gorge Parish Council will be consulted, and Telford and Wrekin Council’s planning department will make its decision at a later date.

    University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire will be the backdrop for the return of the BBC Two series Hospital, which documents the impact of the pandemic on the NHS.

    The six-part documentary series will air on BBC Two in the spring.

    The BBC said the programmes would be "driven by the everyday, personal experiences of workers and patients alike," and explore "unprecedented times" in the NHS.

    "This is undoubtedly a vital time in the history of the NHS, with the UK’s entire health system coming together to respond to and recover from arguably the greatest challenge it has ever faced," UHCW chief executive Prof Andy Hardy said.

    "We are honoured to be able to share a look inside this momentous journey with the public.”

    An overturned lorry on the M6 near Stoke-on-Trent has been removed, meaning the road is now fully reopened, Highways England said.

    A lane on the northbound carriageway between junctions 15 and 16 had to be closed after the HGV toppled over at about 05:00 BST.

    It was carrying 35 tonnes of cargo which needed to be removed before it could be righted and recovered.

    A statue has been unveiled, celebrating the last coracle makers in Ironbridge.

    The artwork, by sculptor Luke Perry, depicts coracle man Tommy Rogers with one of the small round boats hoisted on his shoulder.

    Tommy was born in 1843 and died aged 81 in 1924. He was the father of Harry Rogers and grandfather of Eustace Rogers, the last of the coracle men, who died in 2002.

    The 230kg (36-stone) sculpture was lowered into place on the banks of the River Severn and will form part of the Ironbridge Coracle Trail, linking the Old Coracle shed on Severnside just west of the world famous Iron Bridge to the Green Wood Centre, Coalbrookdale, where the New Coracle Shed houses a coracle collection.

    A care worker from Bilston has bagged the top prize of £300,000 on a scratchcard.

    Bianca Murton, known as Bee, said she was "buzzing" about the win and planned to spend her winnings paying off her mortgage and studying to develop in the career she loves.

    “Working through Covid has been tough and it’s been stressful," she said. "The amount of work has increased and, since I don’t drive, I’ve been mostly walking between appointments - I’ve covered a lot of miles - so, with my win in the bank, I’m also going to take my driving test as soon as possible.”

    She bought two winning scratchcards from One Stop Shop in Bilston on 13 April - on the first she won £5 and couldn't believe her luck when the second turned out to be the jackpot.

    “I looked, looked again and couldn’t believe what I was staring at, so much so that I started to shake," she said. "After many checks and double-checks, it really did look like I had won and then I just started to cry.”

    A great-grandfather who is planning to rollerskate 90 laps of a courtyard before his 90th birthday to raise money for charity has now raised more than £37,000

    John Wilcock, from Warwick, has not skated for about 70 years, but says he was inspired to raise money for FareShare by Marcus Rashford's free school meals campaign and Captain Sir Tom Moore.

    He has now decided to increase the target for his challenge, which he plans to complete in January, to £50,000.

    Posting on his fundraising page, Mr Wilcock said the response to his challenge had been "extraordinary".

    Three people have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences after a raid on a property in Cannock.

    Staffordshire Police said it spotted a suspicious blue BMW on Matlock Drive at 13:15 BST.

    After its occupants were found at the rear of a property a 52-year-old man from Burntwood was detained and found to be in possession of heroin and crack cocaine.

    He has since been issued with a conditional caution.

    Officers then forced entry into the property, where cash, phones, drugs, bladed articles and 24 cannabis plants were found and seized.

    Three men, aged 45, 47 and 52, all from Cannock, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs and have been released under investigation as inquiries continue.

    Eight-month old Azaylia Cain is the daughter of ex-Coventry City player Ashley Cain and partner Safiyya Vorajee, who have been told her cancer cannot be treated.

    Pilot Mark Jeffries said he was struck by Azaylia's story after his father also died of the disease in 1986 and decided to raise awareness through his sky art in the air above Azaylia's Nuneaton home.

    He said it took "careful planning and proper preparation", adding: "What's satisfying is to know how much joy it brings to people".

    West Midlands Police said the man, thought to be in his 40s, was crossing Wood Street, near the junction with Monument Road in the Ladywood area just after 22:00 BST.

    He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition after sustaining serious head and leg injuries.

    The car involved stopped at the scene and the driver is helping police with inquiries, the force said, but any witnesses are still asked to come forward.

    Two lanes are open while Highways England works to remove an overturned lorry on the M6, near Stoke-on-Trent.

    The lorry was transporting 35 tonnes of cargo, Highways England said. It has been removed and the lorry righted, but it still needs to be removed from the carriageway.

    One northbound lane is closed between junctions 15 and 16, including total closures of the northbound and southbound entry slip roads.

    Long delays of up to two hours are being reported as a result.
