Co-owners Peter and David Mason said the venue was suffering heavy losses by limiting the number of fans in the stadium and had also been hit by a ban on taking on-the-door payments, as their older fans often did not have access to the internet to pay online.

“The constraints with which we are working in are making it impossible to run as a sustainable business right now," Peter said.

“We are desperately trying to make it work and we are determined to keep this club afloat," he said. “But right now we are working with our hands tied behind our back."

Parents of children at nine schools across the West Midlands have been told they will need to buy students an iPad for their studies, sparking a backlash.

The scheme is designed to boost pupils' digital skills and improve their access to education at home.

Mandy Moore, whose son is in year 8 at one of the schools, branded the decision "absolutely ridiculous".

"There's a lot of families that can't afford it," she said. "Why can't they have something cheaper?"

She also raised concerns students would become "obvious targets" for thieves.

Matt Meckin, director of primary at Windsor Academy Trust, said so far more than 1,000 pupils had benefited from the scheme which he said had been "hugely successful".

He said the trust had not come across any safety incidents, or reports of stolen iPads, and financial support was available for families who were struggling.

  18. Staffordshire Police anti-terrorism officers 'lacked training'published at 09:29 British Summer Time 11 June 2021

Staffordshire Police officers who were tasked with monitoring London Bridge attacker Usman Khan were not sufficiently trained, the police watchdog has found.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct published its findings after an inquest jury found he was lawfully killed by police officers after the attack at Fishmongers' Hall on 29 November 2019.

Khan, from Stafford, fatally stabbed Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones, of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, during a prisoner rehabilitation conference at the London venue.

The Prevent team with Staffordshire Police had been tasked with monitoring Khan, who had been released from prison less than a year earlier, where he was viewed as an "influential" inmate who mixed with high-profile terrorists.

The IOPC found the officers were not sufficiently trained to manage this level of risk, as their role is mainly to safeguard and protect vulnerable people from being drawn into terrorism.

    Quote Message

While we didn't find any wrongdoing by any officers, we have worked with counter-terrorism policing to ensure police forces update practices and close any gaps in the way they deal with ex-offenders
