    An electric bus depot is set to replace a car park in Coventry which will close permanently.

    Coventry is one of only two cities selected by the government to receive £50m as part of plans to be the UK’s first all-electric bus city.

    The Cox Street car park will be turned into a charging facility for 45 electric buses, a council meeting on Monday will discuss.

    The city is to receive 297 electric buses as part of plans to have an all-electric fleet by 2025, becoming the UK’s first all-electric bus city.

    Councillors are also set to agree a bid for funding to provide 400 extra electric charging points at a meeting on Monday.

    A stretch of the A49 Leominster bypass in Herefordshire has been closed southbound due to an overturned lorry.

    The road is closed between the A417 junction for Hope-under-Dinmore and the Dinmore turn-off.

    The northbound carriageway was also closed for a time, but has since reopened.

    A pop-up Covid test centre closed early in Stoke-on-Trent after staff were abused, the city council said.

    The centre had been set up in the middle of Hanley on Tuesday and offered people lateral flow tests and home testing kits.

    But staff packed up early after receiving anti-vaccine statements and general abuse.

    Leader Abi Brown said it was "frankly inexcusable" and the council is reviewing whether to hold two more pop-up centres in the same area on Thursday and Saturday.

    A sports bar has been temporarily closed after a sharp rise in Covid cases linked to people gathering to watch England games at Euro 2020.

    Tamworth Borough Council said, external the closure order for Tamworth Sports Bar would last for at least 48 hours from Wednesday afternoon.

    The town recorded 93 cases of Covid-19 on Monday compared to 25 the week before and its rate of 318 cases per 100,000 people is more than double the Staffordshire and England rates.

    The council said cases have been linked to people going to the bar for the England match with Scotland on 18 June and over the following weekend and urged anyone who went to get tested.

    The sports bar said on Facebook, external it decided to voluntarily close on Tuesday, ahead of the closure order, and aimed to reopen on 12 July.

    Preparatory work is under way for a memorial to Sikh soldiers in the West Midlands.

    The Saragarhi Monument will stand on land in Well Lane in Wednesfield.

    It was commissioned by Guru Nanak Gurdwara, which raised funds to build the statue, while City of Wolverhampton Council will also contribute £35,000 towards the memorial after it agreed to transfer land to the Gurdwara on a 99-year lease.

    The statue will commemorate the Battle of Saragarhi, a conflict which took place on 12 September 1897.

    Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal said: “The bravery shown by the soldiers at Saragarhi was breathtaking and I hope that this fantastic statue will help us to recognise the contributions they made as well as celebrating the city’s diversity and increasing visitors to Wednesfield.”

    Sculptor Luke Perry added “I am so proud to be a part of the positive movement in art that is recognising the rich history of our past."

    Dudley’s old police station is to be converted into new apartments after standing empty for four years.

    Planning officers at Dudley Council gave the green light to proposals to create 14 flats on the basement and ground floor levels of the building on the corner of New Street in the town centre.

    The building was closed in 2017 as part of cost-cutting measures.

    West Midlands Police is pressing ahead with plans to build a huge new HQ in Dudley to replace a number of smaller stations around the borough and had a bid accepted in June 2019 for land off Hall Street.

    But the project has been hit with delays due to legal complexities around the purchase and, at a Strategic Policing and Crime Board meeting in March, Chief Constable Dave Thompson likened the deal to "buying a house".

    Agents Planning Design & Build Ltd said the redevelopment would feature 11 one-bedroom and three two-bedroom apartments. One of them will be created where the old cells were.
