The Deli Social in Sutton Coldfield, which offers eat-in and alcohol options, had applied for temporary event notices (TENs) covering potential England games and the UEFA Euro 2020 final.

The tournament's later evening matches kick off at 20:00 and the venue wanted to show them. But the cut-off time for the venue's garden use is an hour later, just as each game's second half gets under way.

A licensing sub-committee meeting heard the venue had already screened two of the games.

West Midlands Police and environmental health officers have objected, with councillors upholding the objections and serving notices to the venue.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service said it had been shown evidence by staff that they were initially told by the council they had permission.

But councillors' ruling means the venue will not be able to show evening games in their entirety for the remainder of the competition.

A main road in Shrewsbury that's been closed for nearly a month because of fears a house could collapse has reopened.

"It's structurally unsound and it's not been possible for anybody to go into the building," she says.

"This has obviously been quite stressful for the people living in the property. They've had all their belongings in the property so they've not been able to go back in the property either."
