    Exempting supermarket depot workers and food manufacturers from quarantine rules could have been done sooner, according to the boss of a chilled foods distributor.

    Dean Attwell is chief executive of Oakland International, in Redditch, Worcestershire, and said ministers should have reacted faster.

    "This is a bit late in the day because a lot of damage has already been done across the network which is going to take some catching up on," he said.

    Health Secretary Sajid Javid said daily testing of food industry staff would "minimise the disruption caused by rising cases in the coming weeks, while ensuring workers are not put at risk".

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a 76-year-old woman died in a crash in Harborne, West Midlands Police said.

    The woman, it said, was driving a Skoda Fabia which was involved in a collision with a silver Renault Scenic on Northfield Road, at the junction with Wentworth Way at 16:15 BST.

    A 36-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified, and has been released from custody while investigations continue, the force added.

    A number of drowning tragedies have occurred in the last few years as a result of people taking to rivers, lakes and quarries to cool down.

    The charity West Mercia Search and Rescue , externalis now inviting people to take part in a free water safety course on its website that warns of the dangers and offers advice.
