Mr Sarohi had been a Labour councillor for the Pleck ward since May 2000 and was due to become the town's mayor next year, which would have made him the first Sikh to hold the role. He was in his early 80s.
Walsall South MP Valerie Vaz, Labour, described him as "a dedicated councillor... a true gentleman in politics", adding that he "served his ward exceptionally".
His death was announced by Walsall's Labour Group, with leader Aftab Nawaz remembering him as "a very dignified person and really principled man".
Mr Nawaz said of his colleague: “He was a very proud, loving and caring family man and lived his life in a truly humanitarian way where he helped many people. He was a kind, sensitive human being."

People in Warwick are being asked what should happen to the district council's headquarters which the authority admits has become "an increasing burden" on taxpayers.
Riverside House has been virtually empty for more than a year because of staff working from home due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The council has started a consultation , externalexercise - to run until October - on what to use the building for in the future.
Leader Andrew Day said: "The building will not enable us to meet our climate change goals and is an increasing burden on council tax payers.”
They say they have been feeling the pressure of the Olympic swimmer's title defence.

Following Adam Peaty's gold medal success at the Tokyo Olympics, the leader of Staffordshire Council has said the 'whole of the county' is behind him.
The 26-year-old swimmer is from Uttoxeter and started his career at the Dove Valley Swimming Club in the town.
Peaty won 100m breaststroke gold in Tokyo and became the first British swimmer to defend an Olympic title.
Alan White, leader at Staffordshire County Council, said: “Adam is a truly remarkable sportsman who continues to wow us with his amazing talent, smashing records wherever he goes.
“This is another great result for Adam and we are so proud of everything he has achieved so far, and we know he’ll continue to make us proud as his career continues.
"He’s a great role model for the sport and for young people and shows what can be achieved through hard work and dedication.
"The whole of Staffordshire is rooting for him and we wish him and our other athletes all the best in the forthcoming events.”
A formal auction has been launched to find a buyer for the historic Selfridges department store business.
The firm runs 25 stores worldwide including its flagship Oxford Street store and the Birmingham site within the Bullring.
The firm was founded in 1908 but has been controlled by the Weston family since 2003.
It's understood that a buyer is being sought with the company valued at an estimated £4bn.

John Terry has left his role as Aston Villa assistant head coach to pursue his "objective of becoming a manager".
The former Chelsea and England defender joined Villa boss Dean Smith's coaching staff in October 2018.
Terry helped Smith guide Villa to Premier League promotion in 2019.
"It has always been my ambition to move into football management and, providing the right opportunity presents itself, I feel ready to take up such a challenge," said the 40-year-old.
Terry said it was "an extremely difficult decision to move on" and added: "I want to be as respectful to the manager and everyone at Aston Villa as I can. Having given my future serious consideration over the summer, I don't feel it is fair to move into a new season without being certain of seeing that through."

Train services along the West Coast mainline route have been reduced due to high numbers of staff having to self-isolate.
Operator Avanti has reduced the frequency of its trains between London Euston and Manchester, Birmingham and North Wales to "manage staff shortages and ensure a reliable service".
Other services across the country have also been impacted, including Thameslink, Southern, and London Northwestern Rail.
Transport workers are not currently on the list of employees exempt from self-isolation rules, however will soon be able to join the daily testing programme.

"We knew it was going to be close, but last night was really quiet. I was just pushing myself back into the sofa because I was petrified."
Dad Mark said it was a "fantastic achievement".
