  20. Pandemic yields eight-figure council under-spendpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 13 August 2021

    Local Democracy Reporting Service

A pause in spending during the coronavirus pandemic has left Warwick District Council with more money in its account than expected, a report has shown.

It was nearly £34m under budget on its capital spending programme in the 12 months to the end of April, while income from its waste collection was £187,000 more than expected.

And employment costs were under budget by £119,000, because the authority hadn't been recruiting to fill vacancies that came up during the pandemic.

Car parking income, however, was down £364,000 because people didn't go out as much, and councillors were warned that spending would have to start increasing again.
