    A former lorry driver being treating for Covid-19 at Walsall Manor Hospital has had a very special visitor.

    Ralph the French Bulldog went to see his owner Vic Sharrad last week.

    It was the first time the 69-year-old had seen his beloved pet for 85 days.

    Senior Sister Becky Adams said: “Vic is another one of our miracles. He was so poorly and has really been through the mill.

    “Now we’re working to get him on to a ward and home and this visit... has been fantastic to see.

    "It just means so much and I’m glad we were all able to work together to make it happen for him.”

    A man with motor neurone disease who has been making gift tags to help fund research into the condition has been praised by a charity.

    John Adams, 77, of Droitwich, has limited use of his hands and communicates through a voice machine but has raised nearly £4,000 and is determined to help.

    Amanda Bourne, community fundraiser at the MND Association, said: “As soon as I saw John’s amazing Christmas tags I knew they would be incredibly popular, but I don’t think any of us could have anticipated quite how popular they would be!

    "John is one of 5,000 people in the UK living with MND - a disease that sadly has no cure - but he hasn’t let that dampen his spirit and his positivity is so inspiring."

    The association added it was working with other charities and the government to ensure that £50m of new funding with be spent in the "most effective way possible" to help people now and in the future.

    A film festival in Warwick will offer "something for everyone", including musicals and independent films, say organisers.

    Big Picture Festival , externalopens at the Bridge House Theatre at Warwick School, Myton Road, on Saturday. It has an online programme which runs until 5 December.

    In the town for its third year, the event kicks off with Question and Answer sessions with local filmmakers Brian Harley and Cassiah Joski-Jethi and screenings of their productions.

    Mr Harley, winner of the festival's short film competition with "The Allotmenteers", said the event encouraged new filmmakers and "respects their voices".

    "Big Picture Festival cares about connecting and reconnecting audiences to cinema experiences which I am very passionate about," he said.

    Extra clinics are being put on in Herefordshire and Worcestershire over the next few weeks to try and ease problems with people booking a Covid booster jab.

    People have said they've been offered locations up to 30 miles away from their home, making it difficult to get to.

    Meanwhile, a walk-in event in Leominster last weekend ran out of vaccines.

    The Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group said it understood the frustrations and said it would be adding additional drop-in clinics over the next few weeks.

  16. Earl of Dudley's family weigh in on Hippodrome rowpublished at 13:40 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2021

    The family of the Earl of Dudley are calling on the government to block the demolition of the Dudley Hippodrome.

    Last week councillors in the borough voted in favour of plans to demolish the former theatre and bingo hall and replace it with a university centre, however these plans have not yet been approved by the government.

    There have been a number of failed attempts to revive the Hippodrome, which has not staged a live performance since 1974, and closed in 2009.

    The land it sits on was donated by the second Earl of Dudley and now his descendants argue it is "incredibly important" not to bulldoze it.

    Tracy, Marchioness of Worcester, said "the people of Dudley deserve to have such a magnificent building in their area".

    "The building belongs to the people of Dudley so they must have a say," she said.

    A pub landlord has been recognised in an award to mark his 20 years behind the bar.

    Paul Phillips, from Birmingham, took over Scruffy Murphys on Newton Street in Birmingham in 2001 when it was an "unloved Irish bar" and turned it into an iconic music venue.

    Over the decades, he has served the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Noddy Holder and Lemmy of Motörhead and hosted more than 5,500 bands.

    “I never thought I’d still be here 20 years on," Mr Phillips said. "I couldn’t have done it without the backing of a fantastic team of staff. We’re now serving children and grandchildren of some of my original customers."

    Two men, aged 60 and 40, were taken to hospital for treatment after a collision between a car and a flat bed lorry in Stourbridge.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to the junction of Enville Street and the A458 in Wollaston at 08:44 GMT.

    The driver of the lorry received treatment by ambulance staff for his serious injuries whilst firefighters helped to get him out of the vehicle.

    He was then taken to Queen Elizabeth hospital for emergency care, it said.

    The car driver was also freed from his vehicle by the fire service before receiving trauma care at the scene and being taken to the same hospital.
