A woman has lost her court battle to evict her dead mother's partner from her parents' home.

Lynn Lewis appealed an earlier decision to transfer the house in Twyning Green, Tewkesbury, to Thomas Warner, 91.

But a judge ruled Mr Warner, who lived there with her mother, Audrey Blackwell, for 19 years before her death in 2014, could remain.

  7. Council determined to find 'viable solution' for Sub Roomspublished at 15:56 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2017

    Stroud Subscription Rooms

Stroud Town Council says it's committed to finding a viable solution for the Subscription Rooms.

Councillors voted for the town council to lease the Sub Rooms from Stroud District Council and then sublet it to the Stroud Trust community group.

The offer would be subject to lease terms and approval of the Stroud Trust bid.

Councillors agreed that it would also offer to manage the Sub Rooms’ forecourt to ensure it remains a vital community public space.

    Quote Message

In all public consultations so far, the community has overwhelmingly backed the Sub Rooms remaining in public ownership, and we the town council are committed to achieving that. We now want to work with Stroud Trust and other community groups to facilitate such an outcome but there is a lot of work to do between now and when the next bids have to be submitted. Stroud Trust, with the support of the town council, will revisit its bid to ensure that it meets the needs of the community while being a viable and sound economic proposal.

Developers could get the go-ahead for Bristol's tallest building after a planning meeting today.

The block will be built next to Castle Car Park and will be almost 100 metres - 26 storeys - high.

The proposal has seen strong opposition from the Civic Society who object to its height and "architectural qualities".

It will create 375 apartments, 20% of which would be affordable housing.

Castlemead is currently the tallest towerblock in Bristol at 80 metres while St Mary Redcliffe's church spire is 89 metres.

"They're just stealing of the people at the bottom of the pile, it's just not fair,"

The owner of a house which was badly damaged by fire last month has written a sign on the boarded-up windows saying "I have nothing left to steal".

John Humphreys, who lives in Southmead, Bristol, said he had dropped a candle and the glass surrounding had broken and part "must had smouldered".

Mr Humphreys said his property had been targeted several times since the blaze.

"Everyday I come back from work wondering what they are going to do next," he said.

  13. Is this Bristol City's moment?published at 13:34 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2017

    Tom Garry
    BBC Sport, West Country

Not since the 2008 play-off final have Bristol City been involved in as high profile a game as tonight's EFL Cup quarter-final against Manchester United.

City defender Aden Flint has described the game as their "least important of the month", given their current focus on league matches amid their genuine push for promotion to the Premier League.

But even he admitted that such conservative thoughts will banish from the players' minds as soon as they come head-to-head with United's world-class players, from flamboyant striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to unflappable goalkeeper David de Gea.

Enjoying a run of eight wins in their past 10 games in all competitions, the Robins could scarcely have arrived at tonight's match in better form, but United boss Jose Mourinho is on yet another trophy hunt.

A shock victory would surely go down as one of Bristol City's greatest moments.
