    A campaign's been launched to open a night shelter in Weston-super-Mare.

    A woman from Weston-super-Mare is hoping to set up a night shelter for the town's homeless.

    Valerie Donegan has created a Facebook group to unite community efforts, which more than 1,300 people have joined in just four days.

    It comes after local organisations said the number of rough sleepers was increasing, while there is no emergency night shelter available in North Somerset.

    North Somerset Council says its team and the homeless charity, St Mungos, are currently in the process of setting up a new partnership which will explore the option of a night shelter in Weston.

    Dursley in Gloucestershire has been identified as house price hotspot in a study of commuter towns.

    Property website Zoopla made the findings after analysing towns within an hour's commute of 10 cities.

    Areas clustered around London, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Sheffield, Liverpool and Nottingham were looked at for annual house price growth.

    The firm identified Swanley as the best house price performer in the study, with prices increasing by 10.78% or £36,484 over the past year.

    Dursley was placed second, with price growth of 9.71% or £26,339 over the past year.

    Deputy mayor Asher Craig said it's taken "a lot of work" and also highlights the inequality facing women living in more deprived areas.

    A £850,000 plan to upgrade the level crossing over West Somerset Railway at Minehead has been signed off by Somerset County Council.

    The current single-lane gates will be replaced with two gates on each side, stretching across the full width of the road, which the county council and railway say is safer for the urban environment.

    The authority will pick up the bill for the work as it's considered a highways project.

    Work to replace the gates and changes to signalling systems will take place later in the year.

    The vexed issue of parking in Bath has now taken a clandestine turn.

    Signs have been spotted, warning motorists not to leave their cars in a new residents' parking zone.

    But drivers are being hoodwinked... as the signs in Sion Hill and Summerhill Road are fake.

    None of the residents our reporter interviewed today owned up, although Jeff Atherton said: "Long may it continue!"

    Pete Bridgeman from Somerset spent months wearing a pink wig in solidarity with his wife who was being treated for breast cancer.

    He raised more than £3,500 for Yeovil District Hospital, and today he presented the cheque to them.

    A Bristol schoolboy is to compete against a well-known American boxer in Blackpool on Saturday.

    Jude Moore, 14, from Fishponds, has been boxing for four years and has already won national and tri-nations championships.

    Jude said he is "nervous" but that he has "got a good chance" against his American opposition, Ashton M Sylvie, who is very well known in the USA and has backing from celebrities such as Snoop Dogg.

    The young boxer said boxing is his "destiny" and he wants a career in the sport.

    A species of bat facing extinction could be helped by a student's research.

    There are fewer than 1,300 Livingstone fruit bats left in the wild with about 70 in captivity.

    PhD student Sarah Richdon, from Bristol, wants to analyse the genetic family tree which will assist captive breeding programmes.

    A crowdfunding campaign to help finance the project has raised a third of its target.

    A new TV drama focusing on the abduction of a young black girl named Kiri starts on Channel Four tonight.

    It was filmed at a number of recognisable locations in Bristol including Gloucester Road, The Downs and the Bear Pit.

    The storyline features a transracial adoption as Kiri is to be adopted by her white foster parents.

    Stacie Hinkinson is homeless and is one of those who have been handed notices by Bristol Waste, giving her 24 hours to move her belongings.

    She tries to make money by selling homemade dreamcatchers to shoppers in the city's Broadmead and Cabot Circus shopping centres.

    Kerry meanwhile said she had no idea where she would go and would "sit and protest".

    The director of nursing at Southmead Hospital has rejected press reports, external that the hospital is "on its knees".

    It's alleged leaked memos confirm there's a crisis at Southmead, with all beds being taken and concerns about the levels of high attendance at A&E.

    Sue Jones said her staff were "very motivated to do the right things for our patients".

    "We have opened every conceivable bed space and are using all the extra capacity that we can," she added.

    Kiri stars Sarah Lancashire as a social worker based around the Gloucester Road.

    It was filmed in the city and tells the story of a little girl whose inter-racial adoption goes terribly wrong.

    It was the idea of the award-winning writer Jack Thorne, who was born in the city.

    Police have arrested a third man in connection with an armed robbery at a post office in Martock, Somerset.

    The 39-year-old was arrested today on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery and remains in police custody.

    A 26-year-old and a 30-year-old have already been arrested on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery respectively.

    Both have been released under investigation.

    No-one was hurt in the attack last Thursday at about 4.40pm, but the offender left with a quantity of money.

    He began on 6th January and completed his first marathon in Canada on Monday.

    His epic challenge could bag him a World Record and is all to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
