    Figures obtained by the BBC show there's a huge variation between hospitals in the West when it comes to vacancies for doctors.

    Weston General has closed its Accident and Emergency department at night because of a shortage of staff.

    According to these latest figures, the hospital needs to find 44 doctors - that's a vacancy rate of 13 percent.

    Elsewhere in the region:

    • Southmead, University Hospitals Bristol and the Royal United Hospital all have vacancy rates of one percent or less
    • Yeovil hospital is short by about 11 doctors, which is a vacancy rate of five per cent
    • Taunton's Musgrove Park needs to find 33 doctors - a vacancy rate of over six percent
    • Swindon's Great Western has a seven percent vacancy rate
    • The two main hospitals in Gloucestershire need to find 66 doctors between them - which is an eight percent vacancy rate

    A 10-year-old girl has been taken to hospital after being bitten by a dog at a property in Bristol, police say.

    An investigation is under way into the incident at Britton Gardens on Monday.

    A 28-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident and released under investigation.

    More than 800 people have joined a group on Facebook, external calling for extra support for the homeless in Weston-super-Mare.

    It comes after local organisations told BBC Radio Bristol last week that the number of rough sleepers was on the increase, whilst there's no emergency night shelter available in North Somerset.

    North Somerset Council says in collabaration with the St Mungos charity, it is currently in the process of setting up a new partnership group which will explore the option of a night shelter in the town.

    Sussex has a brand new piece of outdoor art.

    The Angel of Brighton was painted on a wall in the city's North Laine by artist Cosmo Sarson.

    He mixed four kilograms of gold glitter into paint for the three-storey high mural.

    Cosmo also painted the famous Breakdancing Jesus mural in Bristol.

    Four women in Yatton have reported sexual assaults in the last two days, police say.

    Because the assaults all happened within a short space of time and are in a close locality, officers believe they may be linked.

    Bristol City held their own against Premiership giants Manchester City last night in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

    It ended with a 2-1 defeat.

    A record breaking away crowd made the journey to Manchester, and they were delighted with their team's performance.

    A fault with the signalling system at Trowbridge is causing disruption to trains between Bath Spa, Chippenham and Westbury.

    There are reduced train services in parts of the West due to strike action by the RMT union.

    Services on South Western Trains are reduced and replacement bus service are running at many stations. .

    Meanwhile, there are delays of up to 30 minutes on Great Western Railway services between Bath Spa and Westbury, and between Chippenham and Westbury, due to signalling problems

  16. Recap: Dorset NHS hospitals shake-up planspublished at 07:09 Greenwich Mean Time 10 January 2018

    Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) agreed changes to Dorset NHS hospital services in October.

    Under the plans, Poole Hospital (pictured) will lose its A&E, maternity and paediatric services to Bournemouth, which will become the main emergency hospital, with Poole becoming a centre for planned treatment and operations.

    The CCG also agreed Dorset County Hospital should find ways to share its paediatric and maternity departments with Yeovil District Hospital in Somerset.

    Changes to mental health acute care include the closure and relocation of beds at the Linden unit in Weymouth and the creation of extra inpatient beds at St Ann's Hospital in Poole and Forston Clinic near Dorchester.
