  7. Missing people searches 'taking 300 officers'published at 11:37 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January 2019

Chief Constable Andy Marsh says that swingeing budget cuts of £78m at Avon and Somerset Police since 2010 mean a big increase in the number of "non-crime" matters, such as missing people, that police have to deal with.

Last year the force was alerted to about 8,000 missing people, roughly 26 a day.

Of these 60 per cent were adults, 40 per cent were children and 4,500 of those went missing more than once- some up to 50 times in a year.

Our Home Affairs correspondent Charlotte Callen has been out with one of the teams involved in such searches.

She told us: "Can I just say that the police do an amazing job.

"I have had the experience of losing my husband in Taunton on three occasions.

"As he suffers with Alzheimer's I know what it can be like but the police officers who helped find him were so good, I can't praise them enough.

Bristol poet Vanessa Kisuule's eulogy to derelict Royal Mail sorting office

Bristol's official poet Vanessa Kisuule has written a eulogy to an eyesore building that is due to be demolished later today to make way for a £300m university campus.

The derelict former Royal Mail sorting office next to Temple Meads station was described by former Prime Minster David Cameron as looking like an "entrance to a war zone".

Ms Kisuule's work - Brick Me - was inspired by graffiti in the building and history of the site.

She was inspired by the site's past as a cholera burial ground, cattle market and colour works factory as well being the sorting office and home to illicit raves after Royal Mail moved its operation to Filton in 1997.

Drivers are now able to pay the £1 bridge toll to cross Clifton Suspension Bridge using contactless enabled cards and smartphones.

The bridge carries more than four million vehicles every year.

Drivers may still pay the toll using silver coins or a £1 coin.

The iconic bridge, which opened in 1864, was designed by one of the most ingenious and prolific figures in engineering history - Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
