A 14-year-old County Durham girl who lost her hands to meningitis as a toddler is now delighting social media audiences by playing the piano.

When she was 15-months-old Tilley Lockey, from Consett, survived meningococcal septicaemia, but her hands and toes were amputated.

She now has two bionic arms which were designed by Open Bionics, based in Bristol.

In 2016 Tilly was fitted with one of their first prototypes.

She has posted videos of her piano-playing during the coronavirus lockdown.

Dorset's chief fire officer has warned of "avoidable" fires draining resources during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ben Ansell, from Dorset and Wiltshire fire service, said: “These aren’t life-threatening injuries... [they are] a strain on the NHS and something which was clearly avoidable."

"Every time an ambulance is called out and paramedics are dealing with people, frankly they are needed in other parts of the NHS," he added.

He also warned people not to leave cooking pans unattended while self isolating or homeschooling children.

Businesses across the Avon and Somerset police force area are being asked to help support the local efforts in tackling Covid-19.

The Avon and Somerset Local Resilience Forum, which is a partnership of the police, NHS and local councils, has made the appeal.

It is struggling to find a range of key items:

• Water repellent surgical face masks
• Non-latex gloves
• Disposable plastic aprons
• Eye protection
• Hand sanitiser (minimum 60% alcohol content)

Chief executive of Somerset County Council and spokesman for the forum, Pat Flaherty, said: "We are aware that supply chains are under significant pressure and that every effort is being made to fix the problem, however, we are very concerned that some of our critical services do not have the supplies they need."

Rodney Stoke and Draycott WI may be socially distancing at the moment, but that has not stopped them from trying to lift each other's spirits.

The group came together this week on their doorsteps and at a safe distance and sang "Jerusalem".

Dozens of rough sleepers across Somerset have been moved into temporary accommodation - because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

The government has ordered all local authorities to find housing for anyone in their area who was sleeping on the streets.

Somerset West and Taunton Council's moved around 25 people into rooms at a local college campus in Trull and a hotel in Minehead.

Gloucestershire Police has issued its first fines for people breaking the new coronavirus rules.

More than 120 vehicles were stopped on the county's major routes over the weekend.

And people who were found to be carrying out non-essential journeys were fined £60.

They included three people being stopped on the M5 while travelling from Manchester to Bristol to pick up a new car.

Tributes are being paid to Lord Bath who died on Saturday.

The 87-year-old owner of Longleat Estate, which runs Cheddar Gorge, died after contracting COVID 19.

In tributes on social media, his friends have described Lord Bath as eccentric, kind and fun.

People slept in tents, camper vans and in their living rooms in the Great British Camp-Out.

Lord Bath - the 7th Marquess of Bath - died on Saturday, it was announced by Longleat on Twitter.

Engineering company Renishaw has started mass-producing components for medical ventilators, to support the NHS during the pandemic.

The firm, which has manufacturing sites in Gloucestershire and South Wales, said both factories were now running seven days a week.

Marc Saunders, from Renishaw, said: "When the government called, we scrambled to respond, and immediately realised the daunting scale of the challenge.

"Ventilators are sophisticated medical devices and we felt that our capabilities would be best applied to helping scale up the production of designs with existing technologies."

The company normally supplies products for jet engine and wind turbine manufacture, through to dentistry and brain surgery.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service has put out an urgent appeal for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Pat Flaherty, from the Local Resilience Forum, said it was "vital" to protect frontline workers.

He said they were aware "national supply chains are under significant pressure" but expressed concern they did not have the supplies they need.

He said: “As we continue to escalate this urgent issue to government through all available channels, we are attempting to source our own supplies locally so that we can continue to deliver critical services.

"As a short-term measure, we are asking local businesses for any support that they can provide with supplies of PPE. If any are able to help, we would urge them to get in touch.”

The intensive care unit sister said the hearts could comfort families unable to see their loved ones.

People should "think twice" before having a bonfire in their garden during this weekend's improved weather, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has said.

The service said it had seen a spike in 999 calls reporting bonfires and was mistakenly called out to "controlled burns" eight times on Friday night.

DSFRS tweeted: "We all need to be more kind and that starts at home.

"Help out your neighbours (and us) and keep your weekend bonfire free".
