    St Neots Town owner Lee Kearns says he's intending to appoint an interim manager as successor to David Batch.

    Batch resigned on Thursday, just over a year after joining the Saints from Sudbury. St Neots are currently 18th in the Southern League Premier Division.

  4. Air ambulance dedicated base opens at Cambridge Airportpublished at 17:20

    A new dedicated helicopter pad and building for the East Anglian Air Ambulance and its crew of pilots and administrators has opened at Cambridge Airport.

    The service says it can now respond more quickly to emergency calls in its area covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. 

    The new building has a proper area to debrief crews after difficult jobs, and a large drugs and equipment store to give them more space to prepare for shifts, a spokesman said.

    Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue has issued a tribute to Whittlesey fireman Malcolm Bean, who died suddenly following a cardiac arrest at his home on Thursday aged 57.

    He joined the service in June 1985 as an on-call firefighter at Whittlesey, where watch commander Mark Brown said: "Malc had a great sense of humour, jovial character and an easy going manner, so his sudden death has been devastating to us all."

    Two RAF bases in Cambridgeshire occupied by the American air force until the late 1990s are among 12 being sold off for housing by the Ministry of Defence, to raise £500m.

    The government has confirmed RAF Molesworth, where cruise missiles were based, and RAF Alconbury, from where special operations were carried out, will go on the market. 

    Mark Lancaster, minister for defence, personnel and veterans, said money raised from the disposal will be ploughed back into defence budgets and the sale of the 12 sites will provide land for around 15,000 new homes.

    A modified Harley Davidson motorcycle worth £13,000 has been stolen from a garage in Littleport.

    In a bid to trace its whereabouts police have issued its registration as AE51KVZ and said it was stolen from Kingsmeads Court on 11 January, between 17:00 and 19:00.

    Sgt Phil Priestley said: "The motorcycle is unique because of aftermarket modifications, including an alternative saddle. The theft has had a significant impact on the victim - a motorcycle enthusiast."

    Despite her restaurant being badly damaged after a car crashed into it, Ann Jarman, who runs the Old Fire Engine House in Ely, said she feels "so sorry" for the driver.

    "The family was coming in for a celebration lunch. Poor thing. She was trying to park and I think her foot just slipped," she said.

    The restaurant had to be closed but has now been boarded-up and it was "business as usual" for customers, she added.

    As reported in the Ely News, external, the smash happened at about 12:30 at the Old Fire Engine House near Ely Cathedral.

    Restaurant owner Ann Jarman told the BBC "staff thought a bomb had gone off".

    The owner of a restaurant that had a car drive into it said it was a "miracle" no-one was hurt.

    "If anyone had been in the room at the time I think they would have been pretty badly injured," said Ann Jarman, owner of the Old Fire Engine House in Ely.

    She said the stainless steel work surfaces had been "pushed right to the back against the fridges and there was glass everywhere".

    "Out of control" touts "hassling" the public to take punt trips could be banned from a swathe of Cambridge.

    City council leader Lewis Herbert said introducing a Public Space Protection Order would make touting for customers illegal in areas away from the River Cam, including King's Parade.

    "Essentially you've got groups of touts at each junction around the city centre," he said, branding them "a hassle".

    A man from Wisbech has appeared in court after a tractor was chased between two counties by six patrol cars and a force helicopter.

    The vehicle was taken from a farm in Tilney St Lawrence, Norfolk, on Saturday before being abandoned in Oakroyd Crescent, Wisbech, during the evening. 

    A 25-year-old man, from Wisbech, who faces charges of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, failure to stop, and driving without insurance, was remanded in custody for the the case to be heard at Norwich Crown Court next month.

    Two men from Luton have been jailed for nine years each after being found guilty of wounding with intent a 31-year-old man from Saudi Arabia in Cambridge last year.

    Ali Mohammed Tobeigi, 61, who moved to the UK from Saudi Arabia in 2014 claimed the victim had planned to kidnap his daughter and grandson and take them back to the country.

    Zackaria Sherrief, 59, had travelled with Tobeigi to "mediate" on the night of the incident in June, Cambridge Crown Court heard.

    Advertisements for chocolate and bubble gum-flavoured e-cigarettes could attract children to try vaping, according to new research in Cambridge.

    The research, carried out by the University of Cambridge, external for the Department of Health, external, examined concerns that the use of e-cigarettes among children and adolescents could lead to tobacco smoking. 

    The study found school children shown adverts for candy-flavoured e-cigarettes expressed greater interest in buying and trying them than their peers.
