  2. Alleged bully attending inquest hearing 'like murderer returning to crime scene'published at 17:58

    The father of a young Tory who killed himself claimed plans by one of his alleged bullies to attend an inquest hearing were like "the murderer returning to the scene of the crime".

    Elliott Johnson (pictured) was found dead on railway tracks in Bedfordshire in September. A suicide note left by the 21-year-old said he felt betrayed by lobby journalist and former political adviser Andre Walker.

    Elliott's father Ray Johnson, from Wisbech, said Mr Walker's attendance would "add discomfort to the family". In response to the claims made against him, Mr Walker protests his innocence, adding he plans to attend the pre-inquest hearing in Ampthill tomorrow because only selected evidence had so far been made public.

    After it was revealed seven areas in Cambridge were found to have illegally-high levels of nitrogen dioxide, Jo Dicks, environmental quality and growth manager at the city council, said a number of things are being done to tackle air pollution.

    He told me the council had forced bus operators to upgrade their fleet to more environmentally-friendly vehicles and it had restricted traffic in certain parts of the city.

    But he said the key was to "get people out of their cars".

    Shaun Derry feels the play-offs aren't beyond his Cambridge United side which host Wycombe tonight.

    The U's are currently bang on mid-table in League Two, but only five points off the play-off spots.

    Derry (pictured) told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We have made strides, we've shown that consistency. I'm always optimistic. While the numbers suggest we can and the games are still there then we'll give it everything."

    Cambridge City's attempt to sign Danny Burns, external on loan has fallen through, but Martin Standen has joined, external the club.

    Burns was scheduled to join until the end of the season but the deal collapsed at the last minute, meaning the defender who started the season with the Lilywhites will not be re-joining City after all.   

    Meanwhile, centre-half Standen, 32, arrives from Henlow and should be available for the Red Insure League Cup semi-final at Potters Bar tonight.

    Police are investigating 28 Asian gold raids, external across the south of the county.

    So far burglaries have occurred in the past month at addresses in Cambridge, Milton, Cottenham, Oakington, Hardwick, Willingham, Histon, St Ives and Huntingdon.

    Police believe one gang has been involved and have so far arrested three men and charged a 14-year-old boy with burglary.

  10. Cycling Tour Series not returning to Peterboroughpublished at 16:38 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2016

    A major cycling event that has taken to the streets of Peterborough regularly for the last few years will not be returning this year.

    The city council says it doesn't have enough funding to put on the Pearl Izumi Tour Series, external.

    Tom Caldwell, the organiser of the Tour of Cambridgeshire, external which sees cyclists whizzing across the county, told told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire's Paul Stainton his event is definitely still going ahead.

  11. Cambridge Science Festival starting next weekpublished at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2016

    This year's Cambridge Science Festival, external is due to feature more than 100 events dedicated to children and families. 

    It runs from 7 to 20 March and will also host discussions on topics including climate change.

    Dr Michelle Cain, who is leading one of those talks, said: "2015 was the warmest year on record as a global average. The air pollution, some of the episodes are related to heatwaves, so that's what I'll be talking about - in particular the 2003 heatwave".

    Roger Keverne, a London-based dealer who specialises in Chinese ceramics and works of art, was contacted by the Fitzwilliam Museum following the Jade thefts

    Asked whether the museum was likely to get its stolen artefacts back, he said: "It looks like they may not.

    "These things do have a habit of turning up eventually, well, they get put back to the market, things get recycled, they get passed on. They move up the chain until they're probably in the hands of someone who doesn't realise they have been stolen."

  14. Museum 'unlikely' to get its stolen Jade backpublished at 14:55

    A museum raided by an organised crime gang is unlikely ever to see its stolen artefacts returned, an expert said.

    Thieves got away with 18 mainly Jade Chinese pieces worth about £15m in a raid at Cambridge's Fitzwilliam Museum in 2012. A number of people were convicted yesterday for their roles in the crime

    Roger Keverne, who helped value the museum's Jade, said if it had been taken to China "that's possibly goodbye".

    He's joined by fellow jumper Chris Baker, who makes his global championship debut, and reigning Olympic and world champion Greg Rutherford.

    The championships take place in Portland, USA, from 17-20 March.

    Environmental law firm Client Earth, external said it was planning High Court action against the government because its plans to deal with air pollution are "just not good enough".

    The BBC has revealed many towns and cities in East Anglia and the UK have illegally-high levels of nitrogen dioxide.

    In response, a spokeswoman for the Department for Food and Rural Affairs, external, said: "Our plans clearly set out how we will improve the UK's air quality through a new programme of Clean Air Zones, which alongside national action and continued investment in clean technologies will create cleaner, healthier air."
