    Nine fire crews tackled a blaze overnight at an industrial estate in Whittlesey.

    The fire at the Aarons Road Industrial Estate on Station Road involved industrial equipment, wood chippings and pallets.

    Trains on the nearby railway line had to be halted for a while as crews took eight hours to put the blaze out. An investigation is under way to establish what caused the fire.

    Flooding just north of Stansted Mountfitchet station has been causing a number of problems on the trains between Cambridge and London.

    Network Rail has just tweeted to say the lines are now back open, but Greater Anglia, external says it expects disruption to services until well into the afternoon.

    A Cambridge-based expert in global sustainability says levels of pollution in parts of Cambridgeshire are "unacceptable". 

    A BBC investigation has found illegally-high nitrogen dioxide levels in towns and cities including in Cambridge and Huntingdon, which can cause premature deaths.

    Dr Alison Greig, from Anglia Ruskin University, says it's worrying for cyclists - and drivers: "Some studies coming out have shown that if you're sat in a traffic jam inside a vehicle with the recirculation button on then you may be exposed to high levels of pollution."

    The new town of Northstowe in Cambridgeshire is going to be made a so-called "healthy town", external by NHS officials.

    NHS England want good health designed into 10 towns and villages around the country. 

    For example, it's suggesting fast food free zones near schools, so children can't be easily tempted, and also appealing green spaces, to encourage people to stay active. Another idea is to have dementia-friendly street signs for older residents.

    • Nitrogen dioxide is a brown gas, with the chemical formula NO2.
    • It is released into the atmosphere when fuels such as diesel or natural gas in a domestic central heating boiler are burned.

    • There is evidence that high levels of NO2 can inflame the airways in our lungs and, over a long period of time, affect how well our lungs work. People with asthma are particularly affected.
    • The concentration of NO2 is measured in micrograms in each cubic metre of air (µg m-3). A microgram (µg) is one millionth of a gram.

    In Cambridge, most illegal nitrogen dioxide levels were recorded in the city centre.

    The full list of polluted roads is: Parker Street, Newnham Road, Emmanuel Road, St Andrew's Street, Pembroke Street, Madingley Road and Long Road.

    Illegally-high levels of nitrogen dioxide have been recorded at more than 250 sites in the east of England, according to BBC research, with a number in Cambridgeshire.

    Today will be generally cloudy, with prolonged spells of rain this morning. 

    During this afternoon we will see drier and brighter conditions developing across Cambridgeshire, but it will turn colder.

  11. Travel: Rail delays between Cambridge and Norwich, and Cambridge and Londonpublished at 08:50

    Greater Anglia says, external due to a safety inspection of the track between Cambridge and Ely trains are running at reduced speed. 

    It says services may be delayed by up to 10 minutes, with disruption expected until 10:00.

    Also, Stansted Express services from Cambridge to Liverpool Street and Stratford are being delayed by up to 10 minutes at Broxbourne due a defective track, forcing speed restrictions.

  12. Illegal levels of pollution in Cambridgeshirepublished at 08:40

    A BBC investigation has found illegal levels of pollution in nine locations in Cambridgeshire, including Cambridge and Huntingdon.

    The law allows no more than 40 micrograms of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) per cubic metre of air (µg/m3). But parts of Cambridge have reached 44 micrograms, and levels up to 52 micrograms have been recorded in Huntingdon.

    NO2, which is a by-product of our diesel cars and central heating boilers, is being called a "hidden killer", and the government has been issued a final warning to tackle air pollution or face action at the High Court.
