    Police are warning people to be "vigilant" after five men burst into the home of an elderly couple in Buckden, in an attempted robbery.

    The couple in their 80s answered the door to a man who said there was a problem with the water and he needed to run their taps, at 22:15 last Thursday.  

    Five men then pushed their way into the property, in Silver Street, and began searching for valuables. They left empty-handed when the couple phoned the police.

    Peterborough serial killer Joanne Dennehy's claim for damages for being kept in segregation in prison is a "misuse" of human rights laws, according to the city's MP.

    The Sun, external first reported that Dennehy, 33, became "tearful and upset" in prison where she is serving life sentences for the murders of three men.

    Conservative MP, Stewart Jackson, has described the legal action "an egregious affront and offence to the victim's families". The decision on whether she will be awarded compensation or not is being heard at the High Court at a later date.

    A motorcyclist killed in a crash near Haddenham yesterday has been named by police as Michael Hamilton.

    The 50-year-old of Benfleet, Essex, was pronounced dead at the scene on the A1123 at about midday.

    The driver of a Mitsubishi Shogun, from Fordham, was unhurt.

    Here are some of the items donated at Orchards Primary School in Wisbech for the family of two of its pupils affected by a house fire.

    A one-year-old boy remains in a serious, but stable condition at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford after the blaze on Saturday.

    The school is collecting toys, shoes and clothes to replace what was destroyed.

    A primary school in Wisbech is rallying round to support a family which suffered a house fire at the weekend, external.

    Parents and pupils at Orchards Primary School are bringing in donations to replace items lost in the fire, which happened on Lime Avenue on Saturday morning.

    A one-year-old boy remains in a serious, but stable condition in hospital. Three other boys - two of whom are pupils at the school - escaped without injury.

    Keeping Peterborough serial killer Joanne Dennehy segregated from other prisoners amounts to "inhuman" punishment, according to her lawyers.

    As reported in The Sun, external, her QC Hugh Southey is challenging Justice Secretary Michael Gove over HMP Bronzefield's decision to keep Dennehy segregated because of concerns over her escaping.

    Mr Southey told the High Court Dennehy's mental health issues meant segregation was discriminatory and her prolonged separation from other prisoners was "unjustified, unreasonable, unnecessary and disproportionate".

    But Tom Weisselberg QC, for the Ministry of Justice, said segregation was a long way from "solitary confinement". A judgement will be heard at a later date.

    A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on the A1123 near Haddenham yesterday.

    The man, who has yet to be formally identified, was pronounced dead at the scene after colliding with a 4x4 at about 12:00.
