    An Aston Martin which the Duke of Edinburgh used to take Prince Charles to school has fetched £350,000 at an auction in Duxford.

    The 1954 Lagonda, which was also used on a tour of the Commonwealth in the 1950s, reached its estimate of £350,000 to £450,000 after more than 1,000 people from around the world placed bids.

    The buyer wished to remain anonymous, but auctioneers H&H confirmed the car will be going to America.

    More now on the large housing development near Cambridge Airport that has today been approved by city councillors.

    Applicant Marshalls put in plans for 1,300 homes, external, including up to 30% affordable housing, a primary school, food store, community facilities and open spaces.

    Of the affordable housing, 30% will be affordable rented accommodation.

    About 180 solar panels have been stolen from a field in Newton.

    The theft took place between 20:00 on 13 April and 07:15 the next day, on High Road.

    Carl Stoppard, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "A large vehicle would have been required to move the panels and it's likely it would have taken a few hours to remove them."

    Our travel reporter says two lorries are involved in the A14 crash near Swavesey.

    The road is currently shut westbound between junctions 29 and 27.

    Congestion is going back to the A14/M11 junction at Girton.

    Cambridgeshire Police has just tweeted to say it is also dealing with another crash at Swavesey.

    Highways England, external says the A14 is shut westbound between junction 29 for Bar Hill and junction 27 for Fenstanton. Traffic is also being held on the eastbound carriageway.

    The East of England Ambulance Service told me it received a call about this crash on the A16 at Peterborough about 16:08.

    A rapid response vehicle and an ambulance are at the scene.

    It said several patients are involved, but exactly how many people are hurt and their condition has not yet been confirmed.

    Motorists are being urged to avoid the A16 near Dogsthorpe in Peterborough following a "serious collision", police say.

    The crash between two vehicles was reported at just after 16:00.

    A spokesman said details are "sketchy at this time", but "several people are believed to have suffered serious injuries".

    Smartphone chip designer ARM Holdings has posted rising profits and outpaced the market thanks to strong demand for its products.

    The Cambridge-based firm's results came in ahead of expectations as pre-tax profits lifted 14% to £137.5m in the first quarter year-on-year, while revenues also stepped up 22% to £276.4m over the period. 

    The company, which supplies technology for the iPhone, has warned however the uncertain global economy could hit spending in the rest of 2016.

    The fire service says the blaze at the Leverton House bed and breakfast on Newmarket Road, Cambridge, this morning started in a tumble dryer.

    The officer in charge, Pete Jones, said: "Crews responded very quickly to this incident and managed to contain the fire to just the garage. There is some smoke damage to the rest of the house. 

    "The fire in the garage was more severe than normal owing to large quantities of materials stored inside and we would always encourage people to aim to keep garages clear of clutter."

    A steam engine that was thought to have been scrapped but was actually hiding away in the countryside for decades is being moved to a new home today.

    The shunting engine, built in the 1920s, was owned by a private collector and restored over many years in Suffolk and Hertfordshire. After he died, his wife contacted the Nene Valley Railway, external in Peterborough which agreed to put it in its museum.

    Posh were reduced to 10 men when Chris Forrester picked up two bookings in the space of 20 first-half seconds.

    Cambridge earned their biggest ever win in the Football League with a 7-0 victory over Morecambe in League Two.

    Goals from Luke Berry (pictured), Harrison Dunk, Ben Williamson, Mark Roberts and Zeli Ismail lifted the U's to ninth in the table, five points outside the play-off spots, while Morecambe fall to 20th.

    Cambridge's previous biggest win in the Football League was 6-0, a scoreline they managed against Darlington in 1971 and also against Hartlepool in 1989.  

    Meanwhile, 46 Morecambe fans, some of whom made a 462-mile round trip from Lancashire to see their team in action, saw their side suffer their heaviest league defeat since being promoted to the Football League in 2007.

    The Duke of Cambridge has attempted to shrug off criticism of his commitment to his royal duties.

    Prince William's commitment has been questioned in some quarters in recent months, with headlines in some newspapers referring to him as "work-shy William".    

    But speaking to the BBC before the Queen's 90th birthday, he said he took royal duty "very seriously" and emphasised the importance of his role as an East Anglian Air Ambulance pilot and the time he spent with his family.

    I've been to see the Duke of Edinburgh's 1954 Aston Martin Lagonda, which could fetch up to £450,000 under the hammer at Duxford airfield later.

    Prince Philip used to take Prince Charles to school in the Lagonda and used it on a tour of the Commonwealth in 1956-1957.

    It's currently in private hands and is being sold at about 15:00.
