    Town and district councillor for Ramsey, Lisa Duffy, has confirmed she’s standing to replace Nigel Farage as the next leader of UKIP.

    Mrs Duffy described herself as a "grass-roots" candidate and confirmed that she plans to officially launch her campaign within the next fortnight.

    The Arthur Rank Hospice, external in Cambridge is trying to find more people to join its Team Arthur group of volunteers.

    The charity's new hospice, which is being built at Shelford Bottom, is nearing completion but at twice the size of its current building on Mill Road it needs more volunteers.

    Martin Mitchell, from Cambridge, has hired three "deluxe" glamping tents at the three-day Latitude Festival at Henham Park, near Southwold, for six of his family for a total cost of £2,500.

    "I would happily slum it, but my wife Alice wouldn't come to festivals if we didn't do it in such luxury," he said. 

    "It's good value - you get breakfast included, minimal queues for showers, your stuff is brought to your tent from the car park and you get use of a glampers' bar near the main stage. 

    "The staff seem like old friends and the service is fantastic."

    Cambridgeshire Police have told us it has a police presence in the vicinity of Bottisham Village College and it is in contact with the headteacher after travellers arrived at its grounds.

    The school said a "large group from the travelling community" had "moved onto parts of the college grounds" and the school would be closed today.

    Yesterday we told you about reports that a "loud bang" had been heard over Cambridgeshire.

    Several callers to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire said they heard what they thought was a possible "sonic boom" in the Ramsey and Pondersbridge area shortly before 08:00.

    We've now had a response from RAF Lakenheath, external which has confirmed that a "brief sonic event" occurred at 07:40 in the Ramsey vicinity.

    Staff Sgt Stephanie Longoria said: "We offer our sincerest apologies for any disturbance this may have caused, and we will continue to emphasize airspeed restrictions in flight briefings."

    Bottisham Village College, external will be closed today, after "a large group from the travelling community moved onto parts of the college grounds", its website says.

    It has called the situation "circumstances beyond our control", but it is working with police to resolve the situation.

    Many children are due back from school trips today and may now due to be dropped off at an alternative location. The school says parents will be told about the plans by 10:00.

    Apparently it's a new mobile game sweeping the nation which lets players roam a map using their phone's GPS location data and catch Pokemon to train and battle.

    Well it seems like Cambridge University is getting in on it too.

  15. 'Britain's Pompeii' reveals 'exquisite' findspublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 14 July 2016

    An ancient village found near Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire and dubbed "Britain's Pompeii" was just a few months old when it burnt down, it has emerged. Analysis of wood used to build the settlement suggests it was only lived in for a short time before it was destroyed. Despite this, archaeologists said the site gives an "exquisitely detailed" insight into everyday Bronze Age life. At least five circular houses raised on stilts above the East Anglian fens have been found.

    Plans to build the Ely Southern Bypass, external have moved a step closer after Cambridgeshire County Council announced its preferred bidder for the road. 

    Councillors won't say who it is, but they will say the "much needed scheme" will tackle a congested city and help to boost the local economy. 

    It's hoped construction will start later on this year.

    We started getting reports that a 'loud bang' was heard in some parts of Cambridgeshire this morning. 

    Some people thought it could be a 'sonic boom' but that was never confirmed by the powers that be. 

    So BBC Look East asked on Facebook, external what it could have been. 

    Dave Nicols thought it was the "sound of a thousand palms being applied to faces after hearing the news that Boris is foreign sec this morning".

    Stephen Devlin says: "It was all the air escaping from his lungs as Michael Gove learned he was sacked."

    "That was the sound of Jeremy Corbyn when he hit the ground when he heard Jeremy Hunt still in his job," says Corinne Abbott. 

    But Paul Bell wondered it it was "Sonic the hedgehog looking for Pokemon".

    One of the busiest roads in Cambridgeshire will be closed overnight for 17 weeks so it can be resurfaced. 

    Work to fix almost nine miles of the A428 between Caxton Gibbet and St Neots will start on 25 July.

    The road will be repaired in four sections and diversions will be in place.
