    Tottenham Hotpsur's manager Mauricio Pochettino wrote to Shaun Whiter to say he was "extremely sorry" to hear about the crash which led to him having his legs amputated.

    "Your determination and strength is an inspiration to others," the Spurs boss wrote.

    Mr Whiter, a keen all-round sportsman, has expressed his determination to take part in the Paralympics in the future.

    He is also due to marry his fiancée Charlotte Way next July and has vowed to "walk down the aisle".

    Mr Pochettino continued: "There is no doubt that with your remarkable spirit and resolution, you will be walking down the aisle."

    The manager of Tottenham Hotspur has described a 27-year-old footballer who had to have his legs amputated following a car crash as "an inspiration".

    Shaun Whiter, 27, who was training for Newmarket Town, was helping his friend Joey Abbs, a Soham Town Rangers player, change a flat tyre in Newmarket on 1 July when the crash occurred.

    The Spurs fan received a letter from Mauricio Pochettino praising his "incredible courage".

    Mr Whiter is still in hospital undergoing further procedures.

    With temperatures set hit the 30s today, the East of England Ambulance Service, external has issued this advice on how to beat the heat and stay safe in the sun:

    • Wear loose, cool clothing, and a hat and sunglasses if you go outdoors
    • Avoid the sun between 11:00 and 15:00 if you're vulnerable to the heat
    • Drink cool drinks regularly, such as water, and avoid excess caffeine and alcohol
    • Stay in touch with friends, neighbours and relatives who may be less able to look after themselves

    The service saw a surge in 999 calls at the weekend, with an average of 3,370 daily calls between 15 and 17 July, compared to 3,075 in their busiest period of Easter.

    Rail passengers from Norwich face disruption to their journeys this autumn and winter, while upgrade work is carried out on the main rail line into London for the Crossrail project.

    The programme of improvements also includes the installation of station canopies and signalling works for the new Cambridge North station, due to open in May 2017.

    Plans for this work, which will affect services between Norwich and Cambridge on 9, 15, 16 and 23 October, are still being finalised.

    James Burles, managing director of Abellio Greater Anglia, advised customers to check their itinerary before travelling. The firm is working with Network Rail to try to move some other works in the Cambridge area currently planned for three of the weekends, to avoid additional inconvenience to passengers.
