He couldn’t thank Joey enough, he told me.

"He made that call that night to save my life, and made the phone calls to the paramedics.

"He saved my life, and I can’t repay him other than giving him my friendship and trying to support him through this time, because he’s obviously been through it as well."

    Joey Abbs

Mr Whiter lost both his legs in the hit and run and Joey Abbs sustained a serious leg injury in the accident in Newmarket on 1 July.

He says it was really refreshing to take part in sport, having been discouraged from doing so when he was at school.

He said: "I was really encouraged to go and sit in the corner and not do sport... so it has been absolutely fantastic.

  19. 'Cluttered home' deaths inquest adjourned until Decemberpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 29 September 2016

The inquest into the deaths of Somersham couple Roger and Maureen Freestone has been adjourned until December.

Huntingdon Coroner's Court has delayed the inquest so that additional witnesses could be called to give evidence into the events of Easter Monday.

Mr Freestone, 67, was seen kicking a cardboard box, which had caught fire, out of the front door of the couple's "cluttered" home.

Post-mortem examinations showed the couple died from smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning.

The hearing has been delayed until 12 December.

  20. Cambridge-led study into body cameras reveals drop in complaintspublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 29 September 2016

The use of body cameras by police officers has led to a huge drop in the complaints being made against forces in the UK.

A year-long study of nearly 2,000 officers in the UK and America, led by Cambridge University and including Cambridgeshire Police, found that the number of complaints fell by 93%.

In the year before the study, there were more than 1,500 complaints, but this fell to just over 100.

Dr Barak Ariel, who led the research, said that the results suggested wide use of body-worn cameras could reduce violence conflicts with officers and mark a significant cultural change in policing.

His report stated: "Cooling-down potentially volatile police-public encounters to the point where official grievances against the police have virtually vanished may well lead to the conclusion that the use of BWCs indeed signals a profound sea change in modern policing."
