    A teacher from a Cambridgeshire school has been found guilty of four counts of engaging in sexual activity while in a position of trust at another private school in North Yorkshire.

    Simon Ball, 42, from Greenwich in south-east London, has already admitted five counts of engaging in sexual activity while in a position of trust at Kimbolton School.

    The jury at Peterborough Crown Court is still deliberating on four counts of indecent assault and one further count of engaging in sexual activity while in a position of trust at Giggleswick School, near Settle.

    A man has been charged with murder after Asia Tufail, a 32-year-old mother of two, died following an incident in Cambridge.

    Police were called to a house in Perne Road at 06:51 yesterday. The woman was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, where she died this morning.

    Muhammad Malik, 36, of Perne Road in Cambridge, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with murder. 

    A post-mortem examination found Ms Tufail died of asphyxia at the hands of a third party.

    Mr Malik will appear at Huntingdon Magistrates' Court tomorrow.

    Work to repair a sewer in a Cambridge city centre road will continue until Saturday, Anglian Water has confirmed, external.

    The water company has excavated an 8m (26ft)-deep hole as part of the repairs and the company said it hopes "to have the road re-opened sooner than expected".

    There has been traffic disruption in the area. 

    A spokesman said Anglian Water "appreciated road users' patience while we carry out this essential repair".

  10. Five men arrested after £750,000-worth of church lead theftspublished at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    Five men have been arrested in connection with more than 25 lead thefts in Cambridgeshire since April.  

    The cost of the damage and loss has been estimated at more than £750,000, police said.

    The men, all in their 30s, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to steal from churches. 

    The men have been released on bail to return to Wood Green police station in February.

    The van which managed to wedge itself under Ely's railway bridge causing long delays in both directions on the A142 Station Road has been removed.

    Cambridgeshire Police said officers were called to the scene at 13:39.

    The road has now reopened in both directions and traffic is getting back to normal, according to Cambridgeshire County Council.

    He hopes the investment will "help drive the future success of the UK economy."

    I've come to Milton Keynes to get local reaction to the news that £27m is to be spent on developing an Oxford to Cambridge expressway. 

    That means by the 2020s single carriageways should be dualled and improvements made to areas like the Black Cat roundabout on the A1.

    Peter Barber runs WH Barley Transport and Storage. He says getting from east to west currently is a "nightmare" because of all the single carriageways. Roads between Milton Keynes and Buckingham, and Eaton Socon to Cambridge are the worst. 

    He says you "could always put more into it, but you have got to start somewhere, and this is a very good start."

  14. Volunteers pack Christmas goodies for Middle Eastern childrenpublished at 16:00 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    Volunteers in Cambridge have taken delivery of 18,000 shoeboxes stuffed with Christmas presents for children in the Middle East.

    It's part of Operation Christmas Child run by Samaritan's Purse, external, a Christian charity which asks churches, schools and businesses to fill the boxes with toys and games.

    The volunteers have borrowed a warehouse from Cambridgeshire Police to do their sorting.

    Dr Pardo said she got involved with the Homeward Bound Project because "as a young mum, I do worry about the future of our planet".

    A research associate from Lucy Cavendish College, external is one of 77 women scientists from 15 different countries taking part in the Homeward Bound expedition to Antarctica.

    Officers have found a knife at the scene of a stabbing in Cambridge last night.

    The 28-year-old victim remains at Addenbrooke's Hospital where his condition is now described as stable, according to police.

    Roads in the Fair Street area have now been reopened and officers are no longer at the scene. 

    Police are appealing for witnesses.

    Police are hoping someone may have witnessed a stabbing in Cambridge last night, which left a 28-year-old man from the city with serious injuries.

    The victim was with a woman at about 19:00 in the cut-through between Fair Street and the Grafton Centre west car park at the time.

    The 28-year-old is believed to have been in an altercation with another man - described as white, skinny, aged between 40 and 45 and dressed in a grey hooded jumper and grey jeans.

    He then headed off towards Fair St and Midsummer Common, Cambridgeshire Police said.

  20. Autumn Statement: Better transport links between Cambridge and Oxford confirmedpublished at 13:59 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2016

    It was anticipated, but now the confirmation has come through. 

    Millions of pounds has been announced to improve transport links between Cambridge, Bedford, Milton Keynes and Aylesbury.  

    The much talked-about East West Rail link will get a boost, with £100m to develop the Oxford to Bedford section, and a further £10m to explore options for the Bedford to Cambridge route. 

    The Oxford to Cambridge Expressway, which will go through Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, is to get £27m pounds to help delivery of the road project by the 2020s.
