Heading through the exit door. Keith Keane, Blair Adams and Elliot Omozusi had their contracts torn up. Joe Pigott joined Maidstone on loan having failed to make an impact following his summer move from Charlton.

The U's currently sit 11th in League One, three points outside of the play-off places. They host Plymouth on Saturday.

    Ben Stevenson

Concerns have been raised for the safety of cyclists and pedestrians in Peterborough if a key bridge is demolished.

A £5.5m investment to improve the junction has been included in the city council's latest budget, but it could see the bridge removed.

Head of Highways in Peterborough, Andy Tatt, told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire that replacing it with a new structure is "unlikely."

"The current proposal is to take away the structure there. I must stress that it is very much at the end of its life," said Mr Tatt.

"We have to be conscious of funds as well. We'd love to do something iconic but it has to be functional. It has to be serviceable.

"We also have to be able to build it."

  14. Transfer deadline day: Peterborough United latestpublished at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Peter Swan
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire sport

Peterborough entered the transfer window with manager Grant McCann only looking to tweak his squad.

A collapse in form over the past month has since seen his priorities change.

Posh were thwarted in a late deal for a striker and also failed to land Port Vale midfielder Anthony Grant.

However, in a surprise move, former striker Craig Mackail-Smith has arrived from Luton on a loan deal until the end of the season. He'll add experience and know-how up front, but has only recently recovered from a broken leg.

Heading the other way. Shaq Coulthirst and Hayden White both joined Mansfield on loan with a view to permanent moves. Posh cashed in on defender Ricardo Santos, who moved to Barnet in a £100,000 deal.

The transfer window closes at 23:00 in England, and 00:00 in Scotland.

  15. Helen Bailey murder: Accused 'set to inherit more than £3m'published at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Jane Killick
    BBC Three Counties Radio

A court's heard how the man accused of killing Hertfordshire author Helen Bailey was due to inherit more than £3m in the event of her death.

The 51-year-old's body was found in a cesspit at the home she shared with fiance Ian Stewart in Royston, Hertfordshire, in July.

    Helen Bailey

Solicitor Amanda King-Jones said that Ms Bailey changed her will in July 2014 so that her fiance, Ian Stewart, would get her share of her property and money to ensure he had a very comfortable lifestyle in the event of her death.

St Albans Crown Court also heard that if she died after the couple married, Mr Stewart would be saved from paying around £1m in tax.

The prosecution alleges Mr Stewart murdered Ms Bailey, who he was due to marry last September, for her money.

Mr Stewart, who's 56 and from Royston, denies murder, preventing a lawful burial, fraud and three counts of perverting the course of justice.

    The trial continues.

In addition, he secretly installed software on victims' computers that streamed live images taken by their webcam to his own computer to view.

A number of victims were identified, who Turner had never met.

Turner pleaded guilty to five offences including voyeurism, possession of indecent images of a child and a series of crimes under the Computer Misuse Act, including refusing to provide his encryption key for his computer files.

He was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years restricting his future access to children and the internet.

Records were discovered that showed Turner has also acted as a "salesman" for the distribution of malware, and offered technical assistance to aspiring cyber-criminals over chat applications.

  18. King's College to have the first Collyweston slatepublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Martin Borley
    BBC Radio Northampton

Russell Osborn, a consultant for King's College, Cambridge which will be the first to use the newly excavated slate, told me that they will start using the stone in June 2018.

King's have helped finance the mine, in Collyweston, to ensure they were able to have access to the first supply.

    Russell Osborn

Mr Osborn said that heritage buildings such as King's College need heritage materials when repairs are made.

Previously, they would use reclaimed slate from demolition projects but he explained "that is finite so a new source was needed".

A mine is has produced its first slate after a 40-year wait, which its owner described as "fantastic".

Nigel Smith, pictured with a newly excavated piece of Collyweston Slate, told me that he was rather emotional and that it was a "momentous day".

    Nigel Smith

Collyweston slate, named after the Northamptonshire village in which it is produced, has been used on illustrious buildings for more than 600 years - and the first fruits of the new supply will be heading to Cambridge.

Mr Smith said: "You wouldn't believe what hard work has gone in to get to this point."

After mining, the slate will be used in historic buildings.
