    It's a damp and grey start to the day, with some showers still to clear across the BBC East region.

    We can expect sunny spells later, with showers - these could be heavy in places, with the chance of thunder.

    As for the weekend - tomorrow's looking mostly dry and warm. After a wet start to Sunday, there'll be sunny spells and showers through the afternoon.

    A fine end to the day and a clear start to the night across the BBC East region.

    Gradually turning cloudy from the south with the risk of some heavy and possibly thundery downpours.  Muggy, humid conditions will make it feel much milder than last night, with lows of 8C (46F).

    The A605 remains closed between Warmington and Peterborough after an accident between a lorry and a car this morning. 

    One person has been seriously hurt and has been airlifted to hospital.

    After more than 30 years without a cinema, Ely finally has one again. 

    Tomorrow the new six-screen Cineworld will open to the public at the Ely Leisure Village, just off the A10. 

    Before then the city's only purpose-built venue was The Rex, which closed in 1981. 

    The last film to be shown there was Hawk The Slayer on 3 January 1981, when free ice lollies were handed out to children.

    It now means there are now two places to see films in Ely, as Babylon Arts will continue to show special screenings at The Maltings, external arts centre.

    Earlier in the week we brought you a report on how some artifacts discovered in a quarry in Whittlesey have been put on show. 

    The items from Must Farm, described as "Britain's Pompeii", are on show at Peterborough Museum until September.

  11. 'Painful decision' taken to put loved tiger to sleeppublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 11 May 2017

    A much-loved tiger is to be put down at Shepreth Wildlife Park tomorrow morning. 

    The park says Rana, 19, who has been at the park since 2001, will be put to sleep before Friday's opening. 

    The action is being taken as the big cat has been suffering from chronic arthritis for the past two years.

    A statement from the park said: "His legs have finally reached the end and so we have made the painful decision, under the guidance of our specialist vet, to let him rest now.

    "As you can imagine the staff are all very upset and we would appreciate your understanding that we will be cancelling the daily Tiger Talk tomorrow."

  13. A605 crash: One person airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuriespublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 11 May 2017

    We've just had an update from the ambulance service on the condition of two people hurt in a road accident on the A605 in Elton this morning... 

    They say that one person with life-threatening injuries has been airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital for further treatment. 

    A second patient, with an arm injury, did not need transport to hospital.

    The road between Warmingdon and the B671 at Elton remains closed.

    It's the same stretch of road where two people were killed in the early hours of Sunday morning.

  14. 'Essential' military jet training disturbing Cambridgeshire residentspublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 11 May 2017

    There are complaints that military jet flights are keeping some Peterborough and Fenland residents awake.

    Listeners to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire have been telling me that aircraft are causing windows to vibrate. 

    Nicky Hampshaw from Peterborough says the planes were "very low" and "rattled the house", Dale McKeen says they were flying too early. 

    The US Air Force at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk has confirmed training missions are taking place.

    Col Donn Yates says he understands people's concerns, but their activities are part of their "essential training" and have been taking place this week from 07:30.

    He says it's so they can carry out "basic fighter manoeuvres and air combat manoeuvres". 

    "This is just part of our normal readiness," he added.

    "We just need to make sure our pilots have a certain amount of sorties, external a month, to make sure they're ready for any task."

    A testimonial dinner is being held to celebrate the longest serving player's 10th season at the Abbey.

    The defender came through the club's youth ranks and supported them as a boy.

  16. Ambulance service treating two people at scene of A605 crashpublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 11 May 2017

    The East of England Ambulance service is still at the scene of the accident on the A605 at Elton and have told me they're currently treating two patients. 

    They were called at 10:21.

    They've sent a rapid response vehicle, ambulance crew, ambulance officer and the Magpas air ambulance has been dispatched. 

    The road remains closed between Peterborough and Warmington.

    Cambridgeshire Police believe one person has suffered serious injuries after a two-vehicle accident on the A605 at Elton this morning. 

    They say they were called at 10:20, to a collision between a car and a lorry. 

    Air ambulance and the fire service are at the scene.

    The road is currently closed between Warmington and Haddon and drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

    Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed the club has already turned down a £250,000 bid for new signing Ricky Miller. 

    The striker, who only joined Posh last week on a free transfer, scored 42 goals for Dover last term.

    MacAnthony said: "We were offered £250,000 from another League One club last week, can you believe that? 

    "We turned it down, Ricky is a big part of our plans.

    "That could have been the easiest stock transaction of my life!"

    A Peterborough fish and chip shop has been named one of Britain's top chippys. 

    Fishtastic in Orton Longueville is Cambridgeshire's only representative in Fry Magazine’s, external 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways 2017.

    They were judged on the crispness of batter, texture of chips, flakiness of fish, staff uniforms and cleanliness. 

    Martin Bedford, the manager, says their success is all down to "service, good products, never rush a product, always do it as best as you can.

    "We're not fast food - just good food as fast as we can."

    He's not prepared to settle for being in the top 50, he told me he wants to be "chip shop of the year. It's a big ask, but we can get there, it's just having the push to do it, this award gives us that edge".
