Police say they "acknowledge and understand the frustration that Corrie’s family, friends and many supporters feel" in relation to their decision last week to call a halt to the search.

A spokesman added: "The search for Corrie remains a live and active investigation as we all remain committed to finding him.

"Our work to locate Corrie remains ongoing.

"This will include work to search preserved waste that was incinerated to see if this will establish if there are any further clues as to what happened to Corrie.

"This incinerated waste will be subject to examination and where necessary forensic analysis in the coming weeks."

  18. Bus company to cut servicespublished at 10:30 British Summer Time 24 July 2017

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

A Cambridgeshire bus company has revealed it is cutting a third of its services, external from September.

Whippet Coaches has been running buses in the county for three generations, since 1919, and has put the changes down to falling passenger numbers.

Fifteen routes will be stopped across Cambridge, St Ives and around Huntingdon.

A statement from Whippet says that the decision was made "after six months of careful consideration and dialogue with the council on ways to keep the affected services running".

Charlie Hamilton, managing director of the bus company, says that people just aren't using their rural services.

"It's an average of £400 a day to run a bus which includes drivers, vehicle depreciation insurance, tax, cleaning, uniforms," he said.

"If we were to have an average of £3 for a return ticket, we'd need 131 people every single day, Monday to Friday, and we're just not getting those figures.

"We're having maybe 25-30 people use these rural services a day."

  19. Corrie's mum continues her quest for more information from policepublished at 10:21 British Summer Time 24 July 2017

The mother of missing airman Corrie Mckeague says she's going to speak to police today, to ask them to explain what the press release they issued last week, external, actually meant.

Nicola Urquhart, pictured during a previous interview, said: "I don't understand how they can say he is in there [the Milton landfill site] but 'we're not searching any more'. It just doesn't make sense."

    Nicola Urquhart

She continued: "Let us help financially, let us help physically searching, or ask the military to assist them, but do something, don't just walk away if that's where they think he is."

"The biggest fear we have is that they're handling the landfill back and it's going to start being filled in before we've had the opportunity to understand what's happened, why they've just suddenly stopped."

Mrs Urquhart said her appeal for the search to continue "doesn't diminish" her gratitude for what police have done so far, but says "there are other things that could be done".

"The picture in my head is that Corrie is literally one more lorry load away from being found in that landfill or he is one more lorry load away from the police being able to turn round and say 'we know Corrie is not in this landfill now' and that's the sort of answer we should be getting."

We'll contact police to get their response to this latest request from Mrs Urquhart.
