    British Transport Police says that train services through Cambridgeshire will be delayed until at least midday, after a person was hit and killed by a train at Whittlesey station.

    Officers were called to the scene at 09:54 and attended alongside the ambulance service. The person died at the scene but the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

    While the line remains closed, trains will be disrupted between Ely, March and Peterborough.

    National Rail says, external that rail journeys through the county are likely to be delayed until 12:00 while emergency services deal with an incident between Ely and Peterborough.

    CrossCountry services between Stansted Airport and Birmingham New Street, East Midlands Trains between Norwich and Liverpool South Parkway and Greater Anglia trains between Ipswich and Peterborough are all affected.

    Plans for more than 700 homes on the edge of Witchford, near Ely, have been rejected.

    The homes were part of the East Cambridgeshire Local Plan, which will now progress to the final consultation stage, starting next month.

    Councillor Coralie Green, who put forward the motion, said the council was "trying their best to balance the need for more homes while addressing concerns of residents".

    The £1 charge to use Cambridge Park and Ride car parks could soon be dropped, in a move to help reduce congestion in the city.

    County councillors have voted to move the proposal on to the next stage.

    Since the charge was introduced in 2014, bus operator Stagecoach has reported a fall in passenger numbers of around 15%.

    Andy Campbell, managing director of Stagecoach East, said: "I was critical of the decision to introduce the charge at the time.

    "I think this is the right thing to do. I think it will help ease congestion.

    "I would like to give some credit to the county council, because when you make a decision and you find out it doesn't work, it takes some courage to change that decision."

    A doctor has appeared in court charged with two sexual assaults in hospitals in Oxford and Cambridge.

    Anandagopal Srinivasan, 26, of Sandfield Road, Oxford, is accused of a sex assault at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital on 6 October last year.

    A second assault is alleged to have taken place at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge on 24 October 2014.

    He appeared at Oxford Magistrates' Court and has been bailed to appear at Oxford Crown Court on 10 November.

  17. Corrie Mckeague's girlfriend says support 'gets her through day to day'published at 13:47 British Summer Time 10 October 2017

    The girlfriend of missing serviceman Corrie Mckeague has shared a photo of their daughter's "first painting" and thanked people for their continued support.

    April Oliver discovered she was pregnant with Mr Mckeague's child after he went missing from Bury St Edmunds last September, and gave birth in June.

    Speaking on the Find Corrie, external Facebook page, Miss Oliver said she wanted to "share this little thing as it makes me so proud".

    She told the BBC that she had also given their daughter, Ellie-Louise, the middle name Corrie.

    "Some days are good and some are bad," she wrote. "But it's days like this when Ellie and I had fun in producing her very first painting that are good days.

    "I can't thank you all enough for the support that you have all given right from the start, it gets me through day to day."

    Last week, Suffolk Police announced they would resume their search for Corrie at the Milton landfill near Cambridge.

    A former homeless man says he has turned his life around thanks to a Cambridgeshire charity.

    Emmaus, external supports people to transition from rough sleeping through living and working together in a community just north of Cambridge.

    The charity is warning that changes to the benefit system could result in more vulnerable people becoming homeless.

    Kiel Frank says he spent 15 years on the streets, but the worst thing about rough sleeping was the rain.

    Mr Frank said he would "struggle to dry out" and as a result would become ill.

    He had what he called an unsettled upbringing and soon became a person who "drank to excess".

    After the 15 years, Mr Frank decided he had to change.

    Emmaus took him in and he says it is thanks to them that he is still alive.

    The charity currently supports more than 700 people around the UK.

    Samuel set up his website to help people who feel silenced by mental illness.

    "From a young age I suffered from depression, which led to anorexia and bullimia," he said.

    "In my mid-teens I recovered and got back on track, but if someone with experience of mental health problems could have spoken to me then, I would have found that beneficial.

    "So I thought i would set up this website so people can talk to me as I've had a personal experience, and it took off."
