    German supermarket chain Lidl says it will create 500 new jobs in Peterborough by opening what would be its largest-ever distribution centre.

    The warehouse, which requires planning consent, will manage the distribution of products to stores in the region and the company says it will make use of green technologies to improve energy efficiency.

    The proposed centre is part of Lidl's plan to invest £1.45bn in the UK in 2017-18.

    Lidl, external already has 11 distribution centres in the UK.
