    All toilets closed in line with government Covid-19 restrictions have reopened across the Tendring, external district in Essex.

    Initially 12 toilets on seafronts were opened and now further measures have been put in place to allow all 31, external to be used again, the district council said.

    Toilets will be available from 10:00 to 20:00 except for the block on the Greensward at the bottom of Connaught Avenue in Frinton--on-Sea (pictured), which will open at 08:00.

    "We understand there has been some frustration that our public toilets had been opened on a limited basis, but this has been necessary to make sure we have the appropriate safety measures in place," Michael Talbot, cabinet member for environment, said.

    "I am glad that we can now open all of our public toilets, which we know are important for many people visiting our seafronts and town centres – particularly as non-essential retail outlets can now re-open."

    Northampton Town need to overturn a two-goal deficit this evening away to Cheltenham Town to reach the League Two play-off final.

    Former Cobblers’ manager Colin Calderwood claimed most of the pressure will be on Cheltenham tonight, but Keith Curle’s team need a goal as early as possible.

    "I've been in this situation as a player and you get incredibly nervous, really protective when you’ve got this type of lead," said Calderwood.

    "You feel that if the game maybe goes against you and you're beginning to throw it all away it's your fault not doing what's expected and you're the big favourite.

    “For all that I think the most important thing is that Northampton have a goal at some point to get a lead and maybe in the first half.

    "But remember they've got to get the second."

    A scarecrow festival cancelled last summer after a murder took place in the village, has been cancelled for a second year - this time due to the coronavirus pandemic.

    The 2020 Flamstead Scarecrow Festival in Hertfordshire was due to take place on 21-23 August.

    Organisers, the Friends of St Leonard's, said it had taken into account the availability of its volunteers, many of whom have been shielding, the availability of the venues and the risks of inviting a large amount of people to the village.

    Last year, the event was cancelled "as a mark of respect" after Christine Ford, 71, who lived in an almshouse in the village high street, was killed by her neighbour. Briane Coote has been jailed for life.

    "We are very sad to have to cancel the festival for the second year in a row as we know what a well-supported event it is," a statement said, with organisers adding that they aimed to bring the event back in 2021.

    Peterborough Cathedral, external is reopening for prayer and for people to light candles but with coronavirus control measures in place.

    The number of people allowed in at any one time will be limited and it is suggested people visit for no longer than 15 minutes.

    There are hand-sanitising stations, a one-way system around the cathedral and signage to remind people about social distancing.

  10. Man with serious head injuries found dead in woodlandpublished at 09:02 British Summer Time 22 June 2020

    A man in his 30s has been arrested after another man was found with serious head injuries in Norwich.

    An ambulance was called to Clapham Woods, off Drayton Road, just before 05:15 and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The arrested man was taken to Great Yarmouth police station for questioning.

    Det Insp Lewis said: "We believe this to be an isolated incident where the victim and suspect are known to each other.

    "I would like to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area of Clapham Woods in the early hours of this morning.”

    The latest government daily figures released yesterday afternoon show there were three more coronavirus deaths , externalin the region's hospitals, taking the total in the East of England to 3,930.

    The deaths, listed by NHS trust, were:

    • Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals: 2
    • East Suffolk and North Essex (Ipswich and Colchester hospitals): 1

    Government figures issued on Saturday recorded 15 more deaths the previous day.

    The total number of Covid-19 deaths across the UK now stands at 42,632.
