  2. PCSO cuts will mean West Midlands Police misses 'vital clues'published at 17:47

    Unison has hit out at plans to cut PCSO numbers from 535 down to 119 by 2020.

    It said the planned cuts would damage West Midlands Police's ability to investigate "vital clues" to solve burglaries, muggings and vandalism.

    The union says it will campaign against these further proposed cuts and has already met with shadowing policing minister and Erdington MP Jack Dromey to highlight its concerns.

    A pedestrian was seriously injured when she was struck by a car in Warwick last night., external

    The ambulance service says she was treated at the scene of the crash, on Myton Road, before being taken to Coventry's University Hospital. 

  4. Men jailed following violence at Atherstone Town matchpublished at 17:25

    Twenty men from north Warwickshire and one from Manchester have been jailed, external following violence at an Atherstone Town match in 2013. 

    At half-time, during the FA Cup qualifying round match against Barrow, Atherstone supporters invaded the pitch and threw flares at the away end. 

    They also stole a Barrow flag and burned it. 

    All have been been given football banning orders for six years, which cover any football match in England as well as all England international matches.

  5. Nicola Payne murder trial: 'More questions than answers'published at 17:07

    Jurors at the Nicola Payne murder trial have been told the evidence against the two men accused of killing her is "unreliable and overstated".

    It came as the defence for both Nigel Barwell and Thomas O'Reilly, who both deny murder, gave their closing speeches.

    "There are more questions than answers", said Thomas O'Reilly's barrister Rachel Brand.

    She went on to question whether the police investigation had provided any compelling answers or had left the jury with a growing sense of unease. 

    Earlier Nigel Barwell's counsel Mark Dennis called the way officers had handled the physical evidence "shambolic", suggesting that a tent at the centre of the case could have been contaminated.

    Veterinary nurse Debbie Evans, who admitted Felix, said staff were concerned he could suffocate if the can was not removed, and warned people to take care when leaving cans and glasses out for recycling.  

    "The sharp edges on tins and glass cause obvious risks to pets and wildlife, so we'd recommend keeping recycling covered or enclosed, if at all possible," she said.

  8. Colleges' staff walk out over proposed pay freezepublished at 16:13

    Staff at six colleges across Coventry and Warwickshire are striking over a proposed pay freeze.

    Members of The University and College Union have taken to picket lines following the recommended freeze on pay by the Association of Colleges.  

    One of those affected, City College in Coventry, says: "We have made the necessary arrangements to ensure that classes are not adversely affected, therefore all students should come to college as usual.”
