  4. Drop in arrests for West Midlands Policepublished at 17:22

    Police arrested 75,000 fewer people in England and Wales than the previous year, according to official figures.

    The West Midlands Police force area saw a 4% drop, from 36,916 arrests in 2013 to 35,419 in 2014.

    Across the 43 forces there was a 7% average drop. 

    Home Office figures show fewer people were arrested almost everywhere, which the Police Federation warned may be down to cuts to force budgets.

    The FA has confirmed it is carrying out an investigation into the pitch invasion that took place during the Sky Blues away game against Chesterfield last week.

    Police say more than 100 people ran onto the pitch before the final whistle blew.

    One fan was arrested and will be appearing before magistrates later this month. 

  8. New principal appointed at 'inadequate' City Collegepublished at 16:14

    The new principal of Coventry City College, Dr Elaine McMahon, says she's not yet in a positon to comment on the latest "inadequate" rating for the college.

    She took up her position yesterday - the former head, Steve Logan, stepped down in December. 

    The last Ofsted inspection, in 2013, also criticised management of the college. 

  9. Coventry Cathedral to host celebration of Jimmy Hillpublished at 16:05

    Coventry City have announced a celebration of the life of former city manager, Jimmy Hill, will take place at Coventry Cathedral next month.

    The event will celebrate his life and contribution across football and broadcasting, as well as personal memories of him.

    It's to take place at 17:30 on Friday, 12 February, with ticket details to be confirmed at a later date. 

  10. Warwick soldier's family refused entry over his earningspublished at 15:40

    A former soldier from Warwick is calling for immigration rules to be changed after being told he doesn't earn enough for his American wife to be allowed to live with him in the UK.

    Andrew McLaughlin served with the Grenadier Guards in Afghanistan and has been living in the US with his American wife, Wanda, since they married four years ago.

    After returning home to the UK his wife and two-year-old daughter have been refused entry to the UK as he earns less than £18,600.

    A Home Office spokesman said: "There are clear rules for British citizens looking to bring their non-EU spouse to this country, including a minimum income threshold."

  11. Watch: Golf buggy retrieved from River Avonpublished at 14:49

    Police have pulled a golf buggy from the river at St Nicolas Park in Warwick.

    They found it "parked" in the Avon yesterday afternoon.

  12. Cemex scaffolder's death 'entirely preventable'published at 14:34

    John Altoft was among a team installing access scaffold at Cemex cement works in Rugby when he suffered fatal head injuries.

    Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive told Warwick Crown Court that both Cemex UK Operations Ltd and Cape Industrial Services Ltd Scaffolding should have co-ordinated and planned this high risk work to a higher standard.

  13. Companies sentenced over death of scaffolderpublished at 14:24

    Two companies have been fined more than £1m following the death of a scaffolder, external at the Cemex cement plant in Rugby three years ago.

    John Altoft (pictured), who was 29, was killed when he fell to his death after being struck by falling debris inside an industrial tower in January 2012.

    Cemex UK Operations Ltd and Cape Industrial Services Ltd Scaffolding both pleaded guilty to breaching health and safety regulations and were ordered to pay more than £1m at Warwick Crown Court.

  14. Wasps part company with James Johnstonpublished at 13:30

    Wasps have confirmed Samoan prop James Johnston has left the club, external to pursue "alternative options".
