    - Councillors in Nuneaton are maintaining pressure on the Heart of England Co Op to discuss the closure of the town's store

  5. Teeth-whitening products seized by Warwickshire Tradingpublished at 12:12 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    Over 15,000 teeth whitening products, some containing extremely high levels of hydrogen peroxide, external (found in bleach) have been seized by Warwickshire County Council’s Trading Standards. 

    Trading Standards officers are working at the Coventry Parcelforce International Postal Hub alongside the UK Border Force, targeting imports of dangerous products.

  6. Doctor's strike leads to cancelled operations in Coventry and Warwickshirepublished at 11:57 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    A total of 230 operations, out-patient appointments and other procedures have been cancelled in Coventry and Warwickshire as a result of the second 24-hour junior doctors strike.  

    The doctors are in dispute with the government over pay and working hours but they are providing emergency care.

  8. Lengthy road closure after accident in south Warwickshirepublished at 11:31 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    Warwickshire police are warning that the A425 between Southam and Flecknoe is going to be closed for the next few hours 

    It's following a crash at Lower Shuckburgh in which two people have been injured.

    It happened at about 06:50 this morning and the road remains closed

    A midwife at Coventry's University Hospital has been nominated in the Tommy’s Award’s Healthcare Hero category. 

    Lyndsey Prue has been nominated by former patient called Sarah, after she was helped by Lyndsey when she had three miscarriages.

    Sarah from Coventry said: "Having suffered three miscarriages and suffering from mild bipolar I was a mess.

    "Lindsey has been an amazing support and was with me every step of my pregnancy. The staff are all completely and utterly amazing but Lindsey is truly one in a million."

  10. Unions explain why bin strike took place in Coventrypublished at 10:54 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    A Coventry representative of the Unite union, says yesterday's bin strike in the city was because of the suspension of a union convenor by the city council. 

    Some 30,000 homes were affected by the unofficial walk-out.

    Alan Lewis says it all started when a union convenor organised a protest to draw attention to allegations of bullying.

    The council has refused to comment on the suspension due to an ongoing investigation.

  11. Politicians meet to debate closure of Nuneaton's Co-oppublished at 10:40 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    A special meeting is being held today by Nuneaton and Bedworth borough council to discuss the closure of the Co-op store in Nuneaton.  

    The Heart of England Co-operative Society has confirmed the store will close on Saturday 18 June.

    The company says the store has made a loss of £2.7m in the last five years. 

    Today's meeting is to call on the Heart of England Co-operative Society to meet with the council to explain why it wants to close the store.

  12. Refuse collectors say they could take further industrial actionpublished at 10:20 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2016

    Unions representing refuse collectors in Coventry say they could ballot for industrial action.

    Crews walked out yesterday after the suspension of a colleague.

    More than 30,000 homes were affected and Coventry City Council says the bins won't now be emptied until next Tuesday.

    Coventry's refuse collectors have returned to work following an unofficial walk-out.

    Just three crews out of 25 were on the road yesterday as refuse collectors voiced their support for a union convenor who was suspended.

    About 30,000 households are believed to have not had their bins emptied.

    Junior doctors in Coventry and Warwickshire are joining colleagues across England going on strike again this morning in their row over pay and working hours.

    Ministers say nearly 3,000 operations have been postponed as just emergency care will be provided.
