    An amnesty is being launched this morning in North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth , externalto try to collect millions of pounds' worth of unused medicines.

    NHS managers in the region are faced with bills of around £3.5m on drugs that are prescribed - but never taken. 

    It's thought there's about £90m of unused medication across the UK.

  2. 'Body-cams' worn by hospital staff to address violence of 'small minority'published at 12:56 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2016

    Here's more on the body-worn CCTV for hospital security staff:

    Barry Newell, security manager at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, said a "small minority" of patients and their relatives "do show violence or aggression towards staff" and "these measures will assist in helping police investigating criminal behaviour". 

    He added: "We’d like to reassure members of the public that security are only called in extreme circumstances, and that these cameras will not be activated unless absolutely necessary."

    Plans to turn the ballroom at a former city centre hotel into an indoor climbing centre , externalhave been submitted.

    The Leofric Hotel, one of the first hotels built in Coventry after World War Two, hosted stars such as Tommy Cooper and Dame Gracie Fields.  

    The former Travelodge was turned into student accommodation in 2013, but the ballroom has remained undeveloped despite permission being given in 2014 for a 400-seat restaurant.

  5. Woodlands teachers left 'devastated' by possible closurepublished at 12:11 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2016

    Unions representing teachers at the threatened Woodlands Academy in Coventry say they've been left "devastated" by the consultation on closing the school.

    Governors at the school declared it unviable because of a drop in demand for single-sex education.

    Richard Harty, Corporate Representative from the union UNISON, says members will be "seeking an urgent explanation from the Department for Education" about the matter.

    He adds the development of new neighbouring academy, Finham Park 2, has had a "detrimental impact" on the area where there are already surplus school places.

    A Leicester fan, living in Warwickshire is £72,000 richer after making a £50 bet at the start of the season, external on Leicester City winning the Premier League.

    The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, took odds of 5000/1 but decided to cash out the bet at the weekend before his side kicked off their game against Watford.

    He said: "Win or lose the league, I’m looking forward to the rest of the season ahead. It will mean so much if we win so there’s no point in being greedy".

    Security staff at Coventry's University Hospitals have been issued with mini security cameras on their uniform to help protect employees, patients and visitors.

    The trust behind the decision says the body-worn CCTV will allow staff to record conversations that may lead visitors to be evicted from the site, then used as evidence in court.

    They won't be switched on as a matter of routine but will be activated after a verbal warning if they're called to a violent or aggressive situation.
