    A man in his 50s had to be taken to hospital after being attacked in Coleshill, external

    Police say he suffered injuries after being hit on the back of the head, causing him to fall.

    They're calling for witnesses to come forward. The attack happened in the area of Sumner Road and High Street on 14 March.

    Three people have been arrested after a 17-year-old boy was shot and an 18-year-old man was found stabbed in Oxford Street in Rugby.

    Three men aged 30, 27 and 20, all from Rugby, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

    The injured pair - hurt one week ago - needed hospital treatment. Both have now been released.

    A tandem bike, a tin bath and military ammunition were among the items dumped in canals and rivers last winter.

    They were just some of the more bizarre objects recovered in a four-month survey of rubbish in waterways, including Coventry and Warwickshire, carried out by the Canal and River Trust.

    If you're planning an Easter weekend away then you'll be pleased to know that Highways England is lifting more than 58 miles of major roadworks across the West Midlands to help ease congestion.

    Roadworks on the A46-M40 near Warwick will be lifted and resurfacing work on the M6 J2-4 and the A46 near Stratford-upon-Avon should be completed.

    Using a scanner rather than a scalpel could spare hundreds of thousands of cancer patients from risky surgery, a study by the Universities of Warwick and Birmingham suggests.

    Head and neck tumours are treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but then need an operation to visually check whether the growth has gone.

    A study on 564 patients, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, showed 80% of them could be spared surgery by scanning instead.

  9. Campaign launched to save horse riders' livespublished at 10:48 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2016

    The British Horse Society, based in Warwickshire, has begun a campaign to save riders' lives on the roads. 

    It's asking motorists to slow down and pass them considerately after figures showed that since 2010, there have been 36 rider deaths and 181 horses killed or put down from injuries caused by vehicles.

  10. Alas poor Shakespeare - someone 'probably stole' his skullpublished at 10:09 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2016

    A hi-tech investigation of William Shakespeare's grave has concluded his skull was probably stolen.

    The discovery gives credence to a news report in 1879, later dismissed as fiction, that trophy hunters took the skull from his shallow grave in 1794.

    A team used a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) scan to look through the grave at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford in the first archaeological probe of the site.

    Work on the high-speed rail link between London and Birmingham is set to begin next year after legislation paving the way for the project cleared its final stage in the Commons

    The £56bn scheme is due to be completed in a decade, with a further extension to Manchester and Leeds due to be finished by 2032. 

    Four MPs from our area voted against the measure - Coventry Labour MPs Jim Cunningham and Geoffrey Robinson, and Warwickshire Conservatives Chris White  and Craig Tracey.

    The M6 had to be closed for a time earlier this morning due to a vehicle shedding its load of hay.

    All lanes have re-opened and traffic is moving freely.
