  3. Nuneaton grenade update: 'Decommissioned' say bomb disposal expertspublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 6 April 2016

    The hand grenade found on Riversley Road, Nuneaton, has now been confirmed as decommissioned by bomb disposal experts from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), police say.

    A 100m (326ft) cordon was placed around the device, which was found near a doctor's surgery at 06:50 this morning. 

    The cordon has now been lifted and surrounding roads have been reopened.  

    Warwickshire Police have begun an investigation to establish how the grenade came to be in that location.

    A survivor of sexual abuse in Coventry's children's homes has been describing how it took more than a decade to make those in authority to listen.

    The woman, who we're calling Sarah, first complained to West Midlands Police in 1999, but it wasn't until 2012 she was taken seriously.

    A memorial garden honouring ex-Coventry City manager and chairman Jimmy Hill is to be created at the Ricoh Arena.

  9. Cordon in place after reports of a hand grenade being foundpublished at 09:33 British Summer Time 6 April 2016

    A cordon is in place after reports that a hand grenade had been found near a doctors' surgery in Nuneaton, external.

    Warwickshire Police say they were informed of the find on Riversley Road shortly before 06:50 this morning.

    Bomb disposal experts from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) have been informed.

    Police say the device is not believed to be a danger to the public, but a 100m (328ft) cordon has been established around the surgery "to ensure public safety". 

    Motorists are being advised to avoid the A444 Coton Road.

  11. Fourth junior doctors' strike hits NHSpublished at 09:00 British Summer Time 6 April 2016

    Junior doctors in England are taking part in a fourth walkout in their long-running contract dispute.

    The 48-hour strike started at 08:00 as the doctors prepare legal challenges to the government's decision to impose changes to their pay and conditions from this summer.

    Doctors are again providing emergency cover, but 5,000 operations and procedures have been postponed.

    NHS England said the continued disruption was "deeply regrettable".

  12. Deputy PCC Yvonne Mosquito suspension 'heavy-handed'published at 08:45 British Summer Time 6 April 2016

    The suspension of the West Midlands Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner was "heavy-handed", a meeting heard.

    Yvonne Mosquito was suspended last month over allegations she visited a murder victim's family without informing officers.

    But Maxie Hayles (pictured second from right) said Ms Mosquito was "an ordained minister giving condolences to a grieving family"‎ and a councillor for the area.

    He chaired a meeting of more than 100 people to discuss the suspension. Ms Mosquito has not yet commented.
