    A set of two commemorative coins, marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, has been released into circulation.

    Produced by The Royal Mint in collaboration with the RSC, the collection is the first of its kind, they say, dedicated to the accomplishments of a single artist.

  3. Super-gonorrhoea's spread 'causing huge concern'published at 17:47 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Doctors have expressed "huge concern" that super-gonorrhoea has spread widely across England - including cases in the West Midlands - and to gay men.

    The new superbug prompted a national alert last year when it emerged in Leeds, as one of the main treatments had become useless against it.

    Public Health England acknowledges measures to contain the outbreak have been of "limited success".

    Doctors fear the sexually-transmitted infection, which can cause infertility, could soon become untreatable.

  5. Watch: Car theft gang members ram policepublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Seven men from Birmingham and the Black Country have been given prison sentences for their part in a car theft ring that stole high-end vehicles totalling £500,000 in the space of a month, police say, external.

    The West Midlands force said the gang, also linked to burglaries, stole cars in Warwickshire, the Black Country, and Staffordshire.

    Two members, when spotted in a car by police, rammed officers' unmarked vehicle in a bid to evade capture, driving through red lights and on the wrong side of carriageways before being forced to stop.

    Coventry councillors have been paying tribute to Councillor Alison Gingell who's died.

    Councillor Steven Thomas posted on his Facebook page that his "beautiful friend" had been in "great spirits" at her farewell party just 10 days ago.

    Rally driver Paddy Hopkirk's original Mini Cooper S is to run on the ring road sprint circuit for this year's Coventry Motofest.

    The car won the Monte Carlo rally in 1964 and is running again after a major overhaul at Gaydon's British Motor Museum.

    The festival takes place, external Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June.

    Coventry Music Museum has welcomed its 10,000th visitor to the attraction just two years after the museum opened.

    Amid its success, Selector founder Neol Davies joined Ska legend Dandy Livingstone to open a display and tribute to Specials trombonist Rico Rodriguez, who died last year.

  11. Stratford visitors invited to take part in mass 'mask moment'published at 16:01 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    A commemorative Shakespeare mask will be handed out to 10,000 visitors to Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday, marking the Bard's birthday and 400 years since his death.

    During a traditional Quill and Flag Unfurling, the Master of Ceremonies will invite crowds to put on their masks and give "Three cheers for Shakespeare".

    Stratford District and Town councils jointly commissioned the development of a portrait of the Bard which could be used to create a novel face mask.

  13. Coventry councillor 'died peacefully in her sleep'published at 15:26 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    A statement from Coventry City Council says Councillor Alison Gingell died peacefully in her sleep and had been "poorly for some time" after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

    It goes on to say she first arrived in the city as an undergraduate at the University of Warwick before going to be a "tireless leader" in the field of health and social care.

    She most recently led the city's campaign against female genital mutilation.

    Coventry council has announced the death of Alison Gingell, external, who served as a councillor in Sherbourne ward.

    She was a cabinet Member for Health and Adult Services after leaving her job as chair of the Primary Care Trust and Clinical Commissioning Group in Coventry.

    Wasps' winger Christian Wade says he'll get the opportunity to shine on the international stage  "when the time's right" after scoring six tries against Worcester on Saturday. 

    A foot injury forced a lengthy absence earlier this season which took him out of the Six Nations.  

    But he says his priority has been "putting out performances week in week out" for Wasps.

    BBC drama Doctors is to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of "Midlands boy" William Shakespeare with a week of episodes inspired by his work.
