  1. Five arrested following Coventry v Millwall gamepublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    A large police operation in Coventry for the Sky Blues match against Millwall on Saturday saw five people arrested, external.

    A 42 year-old from Nottingham was arrested on suspicion of threatening behaviour and a 26 year-old from Coventry was arrested on suspicion of affray after an incident outside the Wheatsheaf on Foleshill Road, say police.

    Two others were arrested on suspicion of being drunk in a sports ground. A fifth man was cautioned in connection with drugs offences.

    The owners of a Warwickshire pub claim they have lost 20% in trade since the M40 roadworks began in August.

    Co-owner Debi Morisot said The Malt Shovel Inn had lost business since maintenance work started at junctions 11 and 12.

    The roadworks near Gaydon were due to be finished in April but have been delayed until the summer.

  3. Man with a van caused woman's death by careless driving - without being at wheelpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    A delivery driver has admitted causing death by careless driving – despite not being in his van when it hit a pensioner.

    Matheeb Iqbal’s refrigerated van rolled across a car park in Southam, Warwickshire, and killed 65-year-old Susan Collins.

    It’s understood the 23-year-old, from Lime Grove, Birmingham, did not leave the handbrake on properly.

    Iqbal pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court on Friday and will be sentenced on May 13.

    A microscopic sculpture of William Shakespeare - placed in the eye of a needle - marks the 400th anniversary of his death.

    Artist Willard Wigan said he had to control his own heartbeat as he concentrated on capturing the playwright in a celebratory pose.

    Smaller than a full stop in a newspaper and only viewable with a microscope, the piece took four weeks to complete.

    "To See or Not To See" forms part of the Homecoming exhibition at the Light House Media Centre in Wolverhampton.

    Warwickshire's bowlers toiled in the sun at Lord's for little reward on the first day of their County Championship match against Middlesex. 

    The home side closed on 317 for four, with the former England opener Sam Robson 175 not out. 

    Chris Wright claimed the wickets of Nick Gubbins and Nick Compton in successive balls.

  11. No deal: Coventry drugs dealer must forfeit 'game show winnings'published at 09:59 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    A cannabis dealer has been ordered to forfeit £25,000 which he claimed was prize money from an appearance on the Deal Or No Deal game show.

    Karl Rose was ordered to hand over the cash under the Proceeds of Crime Act after a court rejected his account that he'd held onto his TV windfall for more than five years. Police say he appeared on the Channel 4 programme back in May 2009 when he walked away with £20,000 from ‘The Banker’.

    The 29-year-old, of Bruce Road, Radford, Coventry, was arrested in September 2014 after officers responded to concerns over suspected drug-dealing in a nearby area. 

    Almost half a kilo of cannabis was found in a car, owned by an accomplice of Rose, and a subsequent search of his home revealed bagged cannabis with a value of almost £5,000, as well as £25,480 in cash.

    Wasps start their preparation for Saturday's European Champions Cup semi-final against Saracens at Reading.

    They go into the match off the back of a  54 - 35 Premiership win at Worcester.

    Christian Wade equalled the Premiership record for most tries in a game as he scored six against Worcester to lift Wasps to second in the table.  

    He scored four tries in the first half before adding two more from interceptions in the second to seal a play-off place.
