    A planning application for the second building in Coventry's Friargate development has been approved by the city council.

    The 14-storey building, which will sit alongside the council house currently under construction, will deliver commercial space as well as room for a restaurant or cafe, say developers.

    That's the claim tonight made by a Midlands-based company which specialises in trying to recover stolen pets.

    Proposals to demolish a 40-year-old fire station have been given the go-ahead by the city council. 

    The existing building on Radford Road will be knocked down and replaced with a new fire station, complete with a "live training" facility.

    Torrential rainfall in recent weeks has postponed the opening of New Place in Stratford-upon-Avon, a commemorative project at the site of Shakeaspeare's last home, says the Birthplace Trust, external.

    The unveiling of the extended exhibition centre, new entrance, and restored garden at New Place was due to take place on 1 July.

    More than 140 dogs have been stolen in the Warwickshire and West Midlands Police force since 2013.

    Figures from Animal Search UK show that  5,188 were taken nationally.

    Author, Stephen Pope, who's researched the lives of First World War tank crews, external, is asking for help to identify two Coventry men - believed to be in this picture.

    Rol Elliott and Herbert Statham were in what became known as the 'Black Cat Crew' because they took a kitten, Percy, into battle with them.

    Both came from the Foleshill area of the city and both survived the war.

    Men from Coventry and Warwickshire provided the majority of the first tank crews who fought in the Battle of the Somme.

    The Warwickshire castle where Robert Dudley famously wooed Tudor England's most powerful woman, Queen Elizabeth I, will be the first of four across the country to see a woman take on men in the tilting yard.

    Nicky Willis, a leading competitor on the European circuit, will take on a male "knight" in the medieval sport of jousting at Kenilworth this weekend.

    A professional rider who regularly jousts on the continent, Nicky has also trained horses for the sport for more than ten years. 

    At Kenilworth she will pit her skills against three leading male "knights" in the art – including Russian champion Dimitry Sabachenko in his UK debut.
