Detectives investigating the 14-year-old's death told the hearing how he appeared agitated and nervous and how Daniel Johnston had told them they should talk to George Thomson because of his collection of weapons.

    Emma Borthwick
    BBC Radio Cumbria presenter

Cumbria County Council and Cumbria Police owe the public an explanation over their handling of the Poppi Worthington case, Sir Simon Hughes, a former Justice Minister and Liberal Democrat MP, has told me.

Both authorities were severely criticised by the family court judge in his ruling yesterday that Poppi's father sexually abused her before her death

Sir Simon went on to say that he hopes they will come to the conclusion that the matter can't just be closed and must be re-opened again.

You can hear more of my interview with Sir Simon from 17:00.

    Adam Powell
    Journalist, BBC Radio Cumbria

A court has heard that one of the three men accused of murdering a Carlisle teenager deleted almost his entire mobile phone history less than an hour after Jordan Watson died.

Phone records showed that George Thomson deleted more than 500 calls from his phone log.

The prosecution claims that Jordan Watson was lured to Upperby Cemetery on 15 June last year, then killed.

George Thomson and Brahnn Finley, both 19, and 20-year-old Daniel Johnston, all from Carlisle, deny murder.

The trial at Carlisle Crown Court continues.

  13. PM 'shocked' over Poppi Worthington casepublished at 13:43

The Prime Minister was "shocked" to hear a judge rule Poppi Worthington was sexually abused by her father.

Asked about David Cameron's response to Poppi's death, a Downing Street source said: "Like anyone in the country, the Prime Minister has been shocked to read what the judge said yesterday."

  14. Urgent question over Poppi Worthington deathpublished at 13:19

That concludes the urgent question in the Commons over the death of Poppi Worthington.

    In summary:

    • Barrow Labour MP John Woodcock tells MPs the judge's ruling yesterday makes it "clear" Poppi's father Paul Worthington "raped" the toddler before she died.
    • Home Office minister Karen Bradley is repeatedly asked if another force can investigate and whether there needs to be an independent inquiry.
    • She stresses she cannot talk in detail about the case, and asks for patience until a second inquest is held and an IPCC report is published.
    • But she makes it clear there can only be a new police investigation if new evidence comes to light, although the family have the potential for a victims' right to review the CPS decision not to prosecute anyone over Poppi's death.
  15. 'Shocking' if IPCC report has leakedpublished at 13:10

Workington Labour MP Sue Hayman backs a call for an independent report and says the IPCC report has been leaked.

The minister says she did not know the report had been leaked and said it was "absolutely shocking" if true and "shouldn't have happened".

The BBC reported on it last year.
