  2. Five flood warnings now in place for Cumbriapublished at 13:01 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    The Environment Agency have now issued five flood warnings for Cumbria, external. They are for:

    • Dragley Beck at Ulverston from Dragley Beck Bridge on Well Lane downstream to South Ulverston
    • Keswick Campsite
    • Poaka Beck, The Yarl, Hagg Gill and Butts Beck at Dalton in Furness including Town Centre, Queen St
    • Poaka Beck, The Yarl, Hagg Gill and Butts Beck at Dalton in Furness, Other areas at risk
    • River Greta at Keswick, Keswick Campsite, Rugby Club and Quinta

    There are also 14 flood alerts in place.

    We now know of eleven schools that have closed because of flooding on the roads:

  4. Flooding: Round-up of what has been affectedpublished at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Heavy rain has caused flooding which is affecting parts of Cumbria. Here is a round up of what's happening:

    • There are four flood warnings in place, external - Dragley Beck at Ulverston from Dragley Beck Bridge on Well Lane downstream to South Ulverston; Keswick Campsite; Poaka Beck, The Yarl, Hagg Gill and Butts Beck at Dalton in Furness including Town Centre, Queen St; Poaka Beck, The Yarl, Hagg Gill and Butts Beck at Dalton in Furness, Other areas at risk and 14 flood alerts.
    • Nine schools have been closed, external
    • A number of roads are affected including reports of flooding on the A596 between Wigton and Aspatria, the A5087 Ulverston Coastal Road is currently closed due to flooding, Castle Green Road in Kendal is closed and there is flooding on A595 at Muncaster
    • Sandbags are available for collection at three South Lakeland District Council depots

  14. Localised flooding affecting parts of the countypublished at 09:56 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    We're getting reports of localised flooding which is affecting various roads around the county:

    • Castle Green Road (A684) in Kendal is closed near the Castle Green Hotel. Police say there are stranded vehicles in a 'large flood'
    • Slow traffic on the Coast Road (A5087), near Riddings Lane, because of flooding
    • Flooding on Bridge Street in Burneside near New Road and New Street

    Heavy rain this morning will persist throughout the day. It will be very windy all afternoon, especially on the coast and over the fells, where severe gales are likely.

    The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for rain , externalwhich is in place between 08:00 today and 04:00 tomorrow. There's also a separate warning in place for wind between 09:00 today and 07:00 tomorrow.

  17. Weather warnings and flood alerts for Cumbriapublished at 08:32 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    The Environment Agency has issued 14 flood alerts for Cumbria - its lowest level of warning. You can see where they are here., external

    A yellow weather warning, external for rain has been issued by the Met Office which is in place between 08:00 today and 04:00 tomorrow. There's also a separate warning in place for wind between 09:00 today and 07:00 tomorrow.

    Forecasters say heavy rain and flooding on the roads will make journeys times longer and train services could also be affected.

  18. Sellafield workers expected to strike again todaypublished at 08:15 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Hundreds of Sellafield workers are expected to go on strike again today, in a dispute over pay .

    Both the Unite and the GMB unions are in dispute with Sellafield Limited over its latest 1.5% pay offer.

    Unite says a skeleton staff will work during the industrial action to ensure the site remains safe.

    There is also expected to be another strike next week as members of the GMB union will walk out for 24 hours from 06:00 on 29 November. The union said 3,000 workers will be involved - the second strike by its members since the row flared.
