    A Carlisle man's been jailed after punching and kicking his former girlfriend before throwing an Xbox and pouring a bowl of Weetabix over her head.

    Cyril Greer, 38, headbutted one window and smashed a second at his former girlfriend’s home on 9 August after an argument.

    She ended their relationship but Greer returned to her home four days later and repeatedly punched and kicked her, leaving her with blurred vision, bruising and lumps to her head.

    Later the same month, Greer launched another sustained attack on a female friend at a different address repeatedly punching and hitting her.

    Greer, of Dalton Avenue, admitted an actual bodily harm attack on his friend and admitted a common assault on his former partner. He was jailed for 44 weeks.

    • Temperature at 3,000ft: About -1C (30F).
    • Winds: A strong westerly breeze in the morning, easing into the afternoon with gusts up to 40mph to 45mph.
    • Cloud: Patchy cloud across the fells throughout the day. Thicker cloud will build in towards the evening. Cloud bases of around 1,000ft to 2,000ft (300m to 600m).
    • Weather: A dull and cloudy day, with the odd scattered shower but some bright spells. Areas of rain will push in from the south-west later on in the evening.
    • Visibility: Generally good, but poor in any showers and above the cloud bases.
    • Freezing level: Around 2,300ft to 2,600ft (700m to 800m) through the day.

    • Winds: Light to gentle southerly breezes in the morning, turning moderate into the afternoon with gusts up to 20mph to 25mph.
    • Cloud: Patchy clouds throughout the day, with cloud bases around 1,000ft to 1,600ft (300m to 500m).
    • Weather: Dry today, with variable cloud and bright spells across the fells. High-level cloud will begin to build in towards the evening.
    • Visibility: Generally good, very good in bright spells. Visibility will reduce slightly when high-level cloud approaches into the evening.
    • Freezing level: Around 1,000ft to 1,300ft (300m to 400m) throughout the day.

    Jon from the Fell Top Assessors who took the picture of Great Rigg (above) says it was heavy going in the soft snow with waist deep drifts in the hollows. He also warns that in constant wind don't rely on being able to turn back and simply retrace your footprints, as such markings quickly disappear in such conditions.
