The National Park Authority is braced for an influx, as lockdown restrictions are eased from today and the school Easter holidays start.
Cumbria Police says visitors are welcome in the Lake District, as long as they plan their trip and stick to the new rules.
People can now meet in groups of six, or two families, as long as they are outside, and outdoor sports facilities and the stay-at-home rule have ended.
But cafes, pubs, hotels and B&Bs will remain closed.
Andy Slattery who is Cumbria's Assistant Chief Constable and chairs the organisation overseeing Cumbria's response to the pandemic said people must still act carefully.
He said: "Provided they come understanding that most facilities are still currently closed, they bring their own food and refreshments et cetera and plan things like using the toilet facilities and the rest of it, then they can do that without any impact on the Lake District and its residents."
