Patterdale Hall in Glenridding is an outdoor education centre owned by Bolton School in Lancashire which works with schools across Cumbria and the North West.
Tim Taylor from the centre said: "We have been losing £10,000 a month throughout the pandemic, we had to look at our staffing team and think about what team we might need for the future, with the uncertainty of when we might open up again.
"So we've dropped six of our staff, who we'd hope to pick back up again when we have a view to when our business can come back, but at the moment we just don't know."
It's believed about 1,000 jobs have already gone at Cumbria's outdoor education centres, and there are warnings that some may not reopen when the lockdown eases.
In a statement, the government said it's kept its guidance on both residential and non-residential visits under review, in line with Public Health England advice, and will review the advice when it is safe to do so.
Copeland Council is anticipating an influx of visitors and wants to avoid people camping illegally.
