    Martin Lewes
    Reporter

We've now stopped posting news, travel reports and other interesting or useful items about Cumbria for today, and this week.

It's been a busy day with some interesting results that political analysts are no doubt now picking apart with an eye on the Euro-elections.

    Among other developments today:

    • The Royal Navy announced that the fourth of the new Dreadnought class submarines to be built at Barrow will be called King George VI, after the Queen's father who was also, incidentally, the first monarch for more than a century to have fought in a battle as a naval officer, and mentioned in despatches for his work at Jutland
    • The county's volunteer mountain rescue teams supported a special website to advise newcomers to the high fells on how to avoid adding to a lengthening list of "avoidable rescues"
    • And a lecturer from Furness College has been invited to be a guest speaker in Italy at the World Congress for Coloured Sheep. Before you giggle, go and read, it's a quite serious conference on genetics for the wool trade.

We'll be back on Tuesday from 08:00. Keep warm, and have a very good weekend.
