  3. Grotto painting likely to leave Derbyshirepublished at 17:43

    Jonathan Wallis, head of Derby Museums Trust, says he'll be sad to see an original Joseph Wright painting leave the city.

    The oil canvas has been kept in the family of Godfrey Meynell from Derbyshire for more 175 years but is being auctioned later to raise money for Syrian refugees.

    Mr Wallis said Grotto in the Gulf of Salerno had a narrative.

    He explained: "It says something about the morals of the 18th Century, and Julia being an exile. It's a fascinating story and one that deserves to be seen by and told to a wider audience."

  7. Policeman breaks ankle during chasepublished at 16:30

    A 33-year-old man has been arrested in Derby after a chase during which a policeman was pushed over and broke his ankle, external.

    Officers were called to Arthur Hind Close at 22:40 yesterday following a report that a woman had been assaulted.

    A man ran off when approached and during the subsequent pursuit an officer was allegedly knocked to the ground.

    A footbridge in Derbyshire is being restored and renovated by The Canal and River Trust. 

    Potlocks Bridge, which spans the Trent and Mersey Canal at Wilington, is more than 100 years old and thought to be the only one of its kind in the country, is made from railway tracks.
