    Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough says Tom Naylor has matured into one of the best performers in League One this season.

    Naylor was signed by Clough at Derby and played 10 games in defence in the Championship before being loaned out to Bradford, Grimsby and Burton, where he later signed permanently.

    The pair have been reunited at the Pirelli, and Clough admits Naylor has proved himself in a different position, saying he's combative, and has been as good as anyone in League One this season.

    Sawley Parish Council has apologised to residents after experiencing a number of difficulties during its big Christmas light switch on.

    It published a statement on its website apologising for the disappointing start to the display after the switch-on revealed many of the bulbs weren't in and some of those that were didn't work.

  4. Painting sold to help 'those most in need'published at 11:22

    It's provoking plenty of reaction across the BBC Radio Derby Facebook page, external today, so why did former High Sheriff of Derbyshire Godfrey Meynell decide to sell a Joseph Wright painting which had been owned by his family since 1840?

    He said he has given the proceeds to a charity working with Syrian refugees as "these people are in worse shape than even the poor in our country".

    "The problem is that our politicians are always looking for a majority and defining themselves as being against baddies, where as if we got together we could all admit there are bits at the bottom of our society that we should be thoroughly ashamed of, and we could then contribute more according to our means," he said.

  5. Bid to minimise A50 disruptionpublished at 10:40

    Council officials have sought to reassure people that disruption from roadworks to improve the A50 in East Staffordshire, external will be kept to a minimum.

    The work is expected to take two-and-a-half years to complete.

    A new junction and roundabout above the dual carriageway near Uttoxeter will aim to reduce congestion and improve access to new homes and the JCB factory.

    Derby County head coach Paul Clement has earned his third Championship manager of the month nomination, external in a row, as he's up for the November prize after guiding Derby to three wins from four matches.

    Brighton boss Chris Hughton, Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka and Ipswich's Mick McCarthy are the other contenders.

    Rams goalkeeper Scott Carson is up for the player of the month award, external after only conceding one goal in four games, with Ipswich striker Daryl Murphy, Brighton winger Solly March and Leeds midfielder Alex Mowatt also nominated.

    All the winners will be announced tomorrow.

  7. Painting donation is 'remarkable gift' says charitypublished at 10:04

    The Joseph Wright painting was estimated to sell for £150,000 so it raised a few eyebrows when it eventually went for more than four times that price last night.

    This morning, Godfrey Meynell said the family were "delighted" and "feeling good" to be able to help refugees in such a way.

    Reverend Tim Harford from the charity Us, which is benefiting from the cash said it was a "remarkable gift" and would help them offer food, shelter and healthcare to Syrian refugees in Greece.

    Inflation-busting increases in the cost of car parking are being planned in Derby.

    The city council wants to increase income from its car parks by 24%, by 2018.

    This would help ease its financial pressures.

    Jamie Rowland asked: "What about the people in need in Derbyshire?" While Ken Birkin posted: "Shame on that bloke who's selling that painting and giving that money to immigrants. People need money here."

    But Anita Bexon replies: "Why criticise a family selling their own painting to help others? Well done the Meynells. A truly Christian gesture."

  10. Painting raises more than £500kpublished at 08:46

    So an oil painting by famous Derby artist Joseph Wright has fetched £665,000 at auction in London.

    The painting was sold at Sotheby's to raise money for a charity working with Syrian refugees.

    It was sold by the former High Sheriff of Derbyshire Godfrey Meynell, and was expected to make closer to £100,000.
