    Further wintry showers are expected this evening, but some snow is possible on high ground.

    The showers tend to ease overnight and for most it will be dry, although a patchy frost is expected, with lows of 2C (36F).

    Tomorrow will be another chilly day with a few wintry showers possible during the morning, and highs of 7C (45F).

  7. Boost for Derbyshire devolution dealpublished at 17:37

    North East Derbyshire District Council has voted to join the North Midlands devolution deal.

    Council leader Graham Baxter told a meeting of the local authority that the Sheffield devolution deal has £6bn to spend, while the project for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire has £13.5bn.

    He asked councillors: "Can we turn our back on that?"

  8. Final tests for 'smart' stretch of M1published at 17:25

    If you've been battling through the M1 traffic for the last two years, the end is in sight ... apparently.

    Highways England has started its final testing on the 20-mile stretch between Mansfield and Worksop.

    The so-called smart motorway will see the hard shoulder converted into an extra lane, which means there'll be four lanes in both directions.

    It's due to go live in April, 10 months later than planned.

    The auction is a fascinating glimpse into the world of the late Dowager Duchess of Devonshire.

    About 500 items are up for sale, including her jewellery and furniture, but other pieces reveal her friendships with the artist Lucien Freud and writer Evelyn Waugh.

    The Duchess, the last of the fabled Mitford Sisters, also loved Elvis and had a huge collection dedicated to the king of rock ‘n’ roll.

    We've been telling you about the auction at Sotheby's today of personal belongings of the late Dowager Duchess of Devonshire.

    It's emerged that a rare prepublication copy of Brideshead Revisited, inscribed by Evelyn Waugh to the Duchess, has sold for £42,000.

  11. Woman drugged until unconscious at former hospitalpublished at 16:50

    One woman, known as Margaret, says she was drugged until she was unconscious several times at the former Aston Hall Hospital in Derbyshire.

    She said: "I was taken into a room and then the nurse got a bandage and she tied my hands together and then when the vein stood up she put this injection in.

    "It took immediate effect. I was conscious. I could hear, I could see, but I don't know if I could blink. I was like a statue."

    The sale of the contents of her final home, the Old Vicarage, includes gifts from her husband, a rare copy of Brideshead Revisited and a collection of Elvis memorabilia.

  14. Historic complaints about former Derbyshire hospitalpublished at 16:08

    It's been revealed a former Derbyshire hospital, which is at the centre of an investigation about the treatment of patients, had complaints made against it more than 20 years ago.

    A firm of solicitors is now thought to be representing 20 people with similar accounts of their time at Aston Hall hospital.

    Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Board said allegations of abuse at the former Aston Hall hospital have been referred to them and it will now "work closely with partners in police, health, and social services to ensure the allegations are thoroughly investigated".

    There will be some occasional showers this afternoon, and the potential for wintry flurries even to lower levels, with highs of 5C (41F).

    Further showers are possible through the first part of the night, but these will clear in the early hours, with lows of 1C (34F).

    During the trial of Jason Lawrence at Derby Crown Court defence barrister Tracy Ayling asked him about his relationship with each of the victims, and whether the sex or interaction with them was consensual.

    On each occasion he answered: "Yes, that's what Match.com is like, you meet for casual sex".
