    The Larklands and Gallows Safer Neighbourhood Team in Ilkeston has welcomed PC Alex Hunt to its ranks.

    PC Hunt, 24, who used to be a personal trainer in Warwickshire, said: "I had connections with the county as my granddad lived here and because of that I have always supported Derby County. 

    "This is particularly interesting now as I actually live over in Nottinghamshire."

    Police have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak in connection with a burglary in Long Eaton.

    Derbyshire Police said, external the burglar smashed a ground floor window to get into the property in Charlton Avenue at about 14:20 on 17 November.

    He searched several rooms but was confronted after the homeowner returned when the offender was climbing out of a window. 

    Among the items stolen were white gold diamond teardrop earrings, a white gold ring with a square diamond and a pair of round earrings with blue stones in.

    Hansons Auctioneers said the ring's style was popular among wealthy members of the clergy and may have been lost during a religious festival.

    The piece of jewellery had a guide price of between £1,500 and £2,000. 

    Charles Hanson, managing director of Hansons Auctioneers, said: "The ring is from a time of manors, feudalism and farming and was made in Medieval England, 100 years before the Black Death."

    A medieval sapphire ring found by metal detectorists in a field in Derbyshire has sold at auction for £3,600. 

    The gold stirrup-shaped ring, with a blue gem at its centre, was discovered in Belper and dates back to 1250.

    A spokeswoman said, despite a lot of interest from North America, the ring was sold to a woman in the UK.

    Derby City Council has said - following a public consultation - it is planning to increase the number of school places at The Bemrose School in the city to accommodate growing pupil numbers.

    The authority said the majority of people consulted supported the expansion plans, with 74% backing the primary expansion and 70% supporting the secondary expansion proposal.

    Now, from September next year, the school will formally increase its primary admission numbers from 45 to 60 and then, from September 2018, the school will increase its secondary numbers from 180 to 220.

    Robert Storer is wanted for a breach of his bail conditions, Nottinghamshire Police have said.

    The 42-year-old has been charged with three commercial burglaries and an attempted burglary of a house.

    His last known address was Lancastrian Way, Worksop, but he also has links to Retford.

  11. HS2 'working to minimise impact'published at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    A spokesman for HS2 Ltd said they recognised people were concerned about the impacts of the project but were working to minimise that. 

    He said they had a scheme in place to help anyone living in New Tythe Street sell their homes but they were still consulting on compensation.

    The couple miss out on compensation because they live outside the eligible area - while people living opposite will get a payout. 

    The government published its preferred route for the high speed rail link, external earlier this month. However, the couple - who live 42m (138ft) from the line - said they knew nothing about this beforehand. 

    "We always knew it [HS2] was coming down this particular track, so we knew it would come this close," Mr Wilkinson said. "But we now know it is going to be elevated and on a viaduct."

    A couple who will be able to see a HS2 viaduct from their home have said they will not be entitled to compensation. 

    Elizabeth Cleaver and Stephen Wilkinson live metres from a railway line in Long Eaton, Derbyshire, and say the 15m (49ft) high viaduct will have a "drastic impact".

    A charity in Derby has said preparations are under way for the arrival of Prince William tomorrow. 

    The Duke of Cambridge will visit Bombardier and Rolls-Royce before stopping off at the Padley Centre - which helps homeless people and those with disabilities.

    Police have released images of five people they want to trace after groups of rival fans clashed following Derby County's 1-0 win over Leeds last month.

    There were a number of arrests after the Rams' victory but officers still want to speak to several men.

    The public are being asked to help identify the pictured fans - thought to be Leeds supporters.
