    A man has been charged, external after a car crashed into a taxi that had been parked in bays in Derby.

    A Peugeot 407 collided with the taxi in Elton Road at about 22:15 on Friday. Derbyshire Police said the Peugeot then struck a bollard on a traffic island in Cotton Lane but left the scene of both collisions.

    Viktors Maculis, 40, of Clarence Road, Normanton, is due to appear in court on 20 December after being charged with failing to provide a breath sample, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and failing to report an accident.

    I've been in touch with the RSPCA following last week's story about a horse with a broken neck that died after being dumped among fly-tipped rubbish in Shirebrook, Derbyshire.

    An RSPCA spokeswoman said: "We have not had anyone come forward after we appealed in the media for information.

    "This is a very upsetting incident and we are thankful to everyone who shared the story on social media to help us get the appeal out there. We are still appealing for people to come forward."

    Derbyshire's police and crime commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa has praised his new deputy - whose appointment was officially confirmed yesterday.

    County councillor and solicitor Kevin Gillott will take up the job next year.

    Mr Dhindsa said: "Kevin brings a professional input and a career of nearly 30 years working in the criminal justice system, courts and the legal profession."

    You may remember a story we covered earlier this month about a family whose house was badly damaged when a lit firework was pushed through their letterbox.

    The rocket was pushed through the front door of Paul Burton's house in Sunny Hill, Derby, on 5 November.

    Mr Burton's close friend, Matthew Regan, has set up a fundraising page, external to help and is appealing for donations. Mr Regan said he has nine more days to raise another £110 to hit his fundraising target.

    A company run by former BBC journalist Matt Youdale has been appointed by Derby City Council as its communications consultant.

    Arch Communications, based in Nottinghamshire, will work with the council for three to six months.

    The authority said the contract will cost less than the original £60,000 it had allocated.

    The wife of Derbyshire Police officer Tim Frohwein is expected to give evidence at his inquest today.

    Mr Frohwein's body was found near Buxton in November 2013 by a group of friends and family.

    A pathologist at Chesterfield Coroner's Court said yesterday Mr Frohwein died of hypothermia - but a coroner has also promised to examine his mental state.

    Police have stepped up patrols after a driver was seen acting suspiciously outside a school in a Derbyshire village.

    The move comes after three separate reports of the driver of a silver car acting suspiciously outside John Port School in Etwall last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Derbyshire Police said, external.

    Police are keen to speak to the driver, who is described as a white man, aged between 20 and 30 with balding hair.

    Mrs Walters told me: "I like knitting... it keeps my arms and hands moving, although I can't move anything else, I can move these hands.

    "[My daughter] does stitch the pins on at the back... that's the part I can't do, but I can pick my knitting up at any time."

    I've been speaking to 89-year-old Freda Walters at the Milford House care home, near Belper.

    Mrs Walters has been knitting poppies - about 70 in total - since July, and has managed to raise more than £150 for the Royal British Legion in the process.

    Mum Caroline said her son's Sports Personality of the Year award nomination is "deserved".

    "He really does work his butt off and he does deserve recognition for that because he did make such a lot of sacrifices to get that gold," she said.
